[Excerpts from a letter to my son]
The game had a great start. Saugus kicked off. Cody Joyce caught the ball on about the ten yardline, close to the home
sideline. He ran forward about 5-6 yards and stopped. Then he and five or six of his teammates formed a very tight huddle,
all the while the Saugus players were bearing down on this little group. Just as the Saugus players got there, the huddle
"burst" in all directions (Hart calls it the "starburst" play). Joyce took off for the middle of the field
and most of the Saugus guys took off after him. He didn't have the ball. Meanwhile, Jerry Owens, one of the huddle participants
turned up field and started running. Saugus figured out he had the ball when he got to about the 40 and the race was on. Owens
won easily. Ten seconds into the game Hart is up 7-0.
Hart then went up 14-0. Saugus closed it to 14-7 but Hart recovered a fumble in the second quarter and scored to make
it 21-7. I think the final score was 35-7.
The only high point for Saugus was their middle linebacker who had 3 sacks and 2 interceptions and several other tackles.
The only low point for Hart was that the quarterback threw 3 interceptions after having only 4 in the previous 9 games.
Hopefully he got that bugaboo out of his system.
