My post after the first game of the season -- when Hart got blown out began "BAD OMEN:"

So I will end this season how I began: BAD OMEN:

We arrived fairly early. Both teams took the field for warmups and we noticed a problem with one of the Hart kids on the farside of the field. He was vomiting and the trainers quickly gathered round and almost had to carry him off the field. It was Heirshberg, one of the starting receivers. He obviously was in very severe pain. A few minutes later they moved the ambulance over to the sideline, strapped him to a gurney and took him to the hospital. I have no idea what the problem was but I hope he's okay.

BAD OMEN: the Moorpark band started playing that *&%^ UCLA fight song (a VERY painful tune for an old USC alum like me).

Very honestly, my pre-game assessment was that Hart was going to have a very tough time stopping Scott but could probably keep him in check, say 200-225 yards. I also thought the Moorpark defense would have a very tough time with the Hart passing game. It didn't work out that way. Hart had four first half turnovers. Moorpark scored every time it had the ball in the first half and scored every way possible from scrimmage.

Here's the gory detail.

Hart won the toss and deferred. Moorpark choose to run into the wind for the first quarter so the opening kickoff by Hart was to the endzone and Moorpark started at the 20: run by Scott to the left for 6, run by Scott to the right for 6, run by Berry for 4, run by Scott to the left for 22, run by Trotier (spelling?) for 5, run by Scott to the left for 34 down to the Hart 3 and then run by Scott for 3 and the TD. The 2-point conversion was good. Moorpark 8-0 at 9:20.

The Moorpark kick was short and Reyes returned it 23 yards to the 43: pass to Arndt for 18, run by Howell for 5, run by Pettee for 0, incomplete (long, with the wind), pass to Ardnt from the tight end spot on fourth down for 17, run by Howell for 4 down to the 13 and then the first big faux pas of the night for Hart. The Indians lined up in the typical shot gun formation with Howell next to Pettee. On the snap both Howell and Pettee took off to the right in what was intended to be a direct snap to Howell. I think the ball bounced off Pettee. In any event, Moorpark recovered the loose ball at the 18.

Moorpark: Scott to the right for 3, Scott the right for 10, Scott to the right for 4, Scott up the middle (fumble but recovered by Moorpark) for 3, run by Scott to the left for 10, pass for 2 plus PENALTY for a late hit +15, run by Scott up the middle for -1, run by Scott up the middle for 1, and then pass to #3 (a really little guy) up the seam for 33 and the TD. The running PAT was no good. 14-0 at 1:57.

Once again, the kickoff was short and taken by one of the up men who returned it 10 yards and then fumbled.

Moorpark at the Hart 33: run to the right by Scott for 3, run left by Scott for 5, run by Scott up the middle for 6, run by Scott to the right for 0 [END OF QUARTER] run by ? for 3, run by Scott for 1 and then pass to Scott for 15 and the touchdown. The PAT kick (with the wind) was good. 21-0 at 10:55.

Hart at the 20 (touchback): run by Howell for 1, pass to Arndt for 8, PENALTY for illegal procedure -5, run by Pettee (flushed) for 3 and punt -- for 17 yards into the wind.

Moorpark at the Hart 44: run by Berry for 4, run by Scott for 5 and run by Scott for 37 and the TD. The PAT (2 point) was no good. 27-0 at 7:10.

Hart at the 20 (touchback): PENALTY for defensive holding +10, INTERCEPTION (Dakoda Holland).

Moorpark a the Hart 44: pass for 5 plus PENALTY for facemask +15, run by Scott for 5, run by Scott for 4, PENALTY for delay -5, incomplete (first one!) and field goal from 38 yards. 30-0 at 5:05.

Hart at the 20 (touchback): incomplete and then INTERCEPTION at about the 25 returned by Smith for a touchdown. 37-0 at 4:51.

Hart at the 20 (touchback): run by Howell for 2, pass to Howell for 1, penalty for illegal procedure for -5, incomplete and then a long snap over Howell's head and out of the endzone for a safety. 39-0 at 3:05.

Hart kicked off (rather than punted). The returner got by the first line of defenders and ony another great tackle by Blake Mendenhall (the smallest guy on Hart and the kicker) saved a touchdown. Moorpark at the Hart 29: run by Scott for -2, on a trick play, SACK on a wide receiver attempting to pass for -4 but also a facemask PENALTY for +5, run by Scott for 0, pass for 10, run by Scott for 2, run by Scott for 1, run by Scott for 6, incomplete and field goal from 27. Moorpark 42-0 at :06.3.

Hart took the kickoff in the endzone and took a knee at the 20.

Second half:

Hart got a 25-yard return out to the 34: incomplete, run by Howell for -6, incomplete and punt.

Moorpark at the 30: run by Scott for 0, pass for 11, run by Scoot for 6, run by Scott for 6, PENALTY for delay -5, pass to #3 (again!) for 52 and the TD. 49-0 at 8:20.

Hart got a 10-yard return by Hickok out to the 32: run by Howell for 15, SACK for -7, pass to Davis for 9, incomplete, pass to Ardnt for 20 on fourth down, run by Howell for 15, run by Pettee for 0, pass to Arndt for 2, pass to Davis for 16 and the TD. 49-7 at 4:17 in the third quarter.

Moorpark at the 20: Scott was out of the game and Hart replaced a linebacker. Run for 02, run for 1, penalty for delay -5, run for 1 and punt by Scott.

Hart at the Moorpark 26: incomplete, penalty for pass interference +15, incomplete, run by Pettee for 11, run by Howell for -4, penalty for pas interference +12, incomplete (drop in the endzone), incomplete, incomplete, on fourth down, PENALTY for illegal shift, and then pass to Arndt for 17 and the touchdown. 49-14 at :14.6 in the third quarter.

Moorpark at the 20 (touchback): run for 3 [END OF QUARTER], run for 2, run by Berry for 4 and punt for net 5 yards.

Hart at the Moorpark 34: PENALTY for illegal procedure -5, incomplete, incomplete, and then pass to Vairo -- the DB pulled it out of Vairo's hands, Vairo then pulled it out of the DBs hands and then took off for the endzone for a 39-yard TD. 49-21 at 10:05.

Hart tried an onsided kick and got it and started at the MP 43: incomplete, PENALTY for pass interference and then INTERCEPTION by Holland.

Moorpark started at the 30 and brought Scott back into the game (Scott was the only starter out prior to this with the starting line and QB always in the game): run by Scott for 16, run by Scott for 6, run by Trotier for 13, run by Scott for 30, run by Scott for -1, run by Scott for 5 down to the 2-yard line, PENALTY for offsides for +1 and run by Scott for 1 and the TD. 56-21 at 5:57.

Hart at the 20: run by Howell for 3, incomplete, PENALTY for illegal procedure, incomplete and punt.

Moorpark at the Hart 35: run for 1, run for 4, run for 1, run for 4 and FUMBLE.

Hart at the 26: pass to Vairo for 10, pass to Howell for 16, run by Diamond for 0, pass to Howell for 8, pass to Davis for 9, pass to Vairo for 31 and the TD. PAT was no good, bad snap. 56-27 at :46.4

After the kickoff, MP took a knee and it was over.

As near as I can tell, 56 is the most points scored against Hart since 1950.

I had Scott for 241 yards on 37 carries and 3 TDs. He also had 1 catch for 15 yards and a TD. Adam Barry had his most productive night of the season. He was 7 for 9 for 128 yards and 3 TDs. In addition to Scott's rushing, Barry and the other guys (there was no program so I don't have all the names) had another 48 yards.

Hart: The first half was disastrously bad. Pettee was 4 of 9 for 44 yards and 2 INTs. Howell had 12 yards rushing on 4 carries and Pettee had 3 on 2 carries. More importantly, Hart had 4 turnovers and Moorpark scored on every one. Add the safety to that and it's not possible to have more things go wrong.

In the second half, Pettee was 11 of 23 for 177 yards, 4 TDs and 1 INT. He had 4 net yards (including a sack) on 3 carries. Howell had 30 yards on 4 carries and Diamond had 0 on 1 carry.

Pettee finished 15 of 32 for 221 yards, 4 TDs and 3 INTs. Howell had 42 yards on 8 carries and also had 3 receptions for 25 yards. Vairo had 3 receptions for 70 yards and 2 TDs. Arndt had 6 catches for 82 yards and a TD. Davis had 3 catches for 34 yards and a TD.

Now I have to wait 'til summer for more of my Hart guys.

Best of luck to Canyon and Moorpark next week.
