Hart Dad
2003-Upland First Round Playoffs
Home

Here's the short version. Hart scored on 5 of 7 of the Indians' first half possession. The only blips were one drive that was stopped on a 3 and out and an interception in the endzone. It was 35-0 at half. Upland got past the 50 only one time -- just before half when the Highlanders got a long kickoff return. Norton was 13 of 19 for 4 TDs, 1 INT and 265 yards in the first half. Howell had 110 yards on 11 carries in the first half and also had a big sack, an INT, a running TD and a 70 yard TD pass (and the kid punts too!). The big news for Hart: Ryan Wolfe played on offense and had 3 receptions for 45, 18 ( a TD) and 19. In the second half, Norton played 1 series and was 2 for 3, 90 yards and 1 TD to Dillon Christensen (the kicker). Elledge had a TD on an INT return and Hart's last TD was scored by an (unknown) JV. Both of Upland's TDs were in the fourth quarter against the 2nd string and 3rd (JV) team respectively.

Here's the complete summary:

Upland kicked off and hart started at the 20: Pass to Howell for 12, run by Howell for 13, pass to Surratt for 9 (Wolfe's first appearance for the season), pass to Wolfe for 45, run by Howell for 0, pass to Whitmore for 2 and the TD. Hart 7-0 at 10:03.

Upland dropped the kickoff and the returner was smothered at the 21: run for 12, pass for 8, run for 4, run for 4, run for 1, incomplete and punt from the 49.

The punt went into the endzone and Hart started at the 20. This was the only weak series for the starters: Howell run for 0, Norton flushed from the pocked and run for 1, incomplete and punt. Through much of this stage of the game Upland was running 8 DBs and LBs . Hart continued to run out of the shotgun anyway.

Upland took the punt on a fair catch and started at the 43: run for 0, pass for 6, incomplete (drop) and punt.

Hart started at the 13: Howell run for 3 on a pitch play, incomplete (drop), pass to Ciccone for 14, run by Norton for 7, run by Norton for 2, run by Norton for 2, run by Howell (Norton under center) for 23, pass to Whitmore for 21, run by Norton for minus 1 [end of quarter] and then pass to Wolfe for 18 and the TD. Hart 14-0 at 11:55 in the second.

Upland started at the 29. The running back fumbled on the first play but recovered. On the next play, Howell intercepted.

Hart started at the 31 and got hit with a delay penalty which moved it back to the 36: Howell run for 12, pass to Wolfe for 19, pass for 5 to Ciccone and the TD. Hart 21-0 at 10:21.

Upland started at the 24: The QB was flushed but ran for 18, run for 3, incomplete and then a big sack by Howell for a 7-yard loss and then a punt.

Hart started at the 26: Norton (flushed) run for 3, Howell run for 24, pass to Ciccone for 17 and then a pass into the endzone that had a -- Hail Mary -- look to it that was intercepted.

Upland started at the 20L run for 8, pass for 6, run for 4 and then another interception, this time by Evan Surratt who had replaced Scott Amorelli at the corner after Amorelli injured his knee early in the game.

Hart got nailed for a block in the back so started the series at the Hart 44: incomplete, run by Howell for 11, run by Norton for 20, run by Howell for 12, incomplete and then 13 yard run by Howell for the TD. Hart 28-0 at 3:43.

Upland started at the 24: run for 7, run for 2, incomplete and punt.

Hart started at the 8: run by Howell for 0, incomplete, pass to Leigh for 25, following a holding call on Hart, pass to Ciccone for 7 and then an electrifying screen pass to Howell for a 70-yard TD. Hart 35-0 with :38 seconds left in the half.

Upland got a 40 yard return on the kickoff and started at the Hart 48, their first and only foray into Hart territory in the first half : incomplete, run for 4, run for 19 and then half time.

Upland started at the 38: run for 2, run for 5, incomplete and then another interception, this time by Elledge that was returned about 50 yards for the TD and Hart lead 49-0 at 3:13 in the third.

Hart started at the 20: run by Toledo for 0, pass to Wilson for 3 plus 15 yards for a late hit on Moore, run by Toledo for -1 and then a sack for -11 [end of quarter]. Hart punted for the second time in the game.

Upland started at the 34 and finally started rolling against the Hart backups: pass for 16, pass for 22, run for 8, incomplete and run for 20 and the TD. Hart 49-7 at 9:52.

Upland started at the 46: run for 4 and then fumble recovered by Hart.

Hart started at the 36: run by Toledo for 56 down to the 8. No. 31 ran for a 2 yard loss, Lyons ran for 6 and then 31 ran it in for the TD. Hart 56-7 at 5:21.

Howell had a very nice night running for 112 yards on 10 carries.
Norton had 34 yards on 8 carries.
Toledo 80 yards on 8 carries.

Upland's QB had a really tough night. He was 3 for 11, 20 yards and 2 interceptions in the first half. In the second half (before he was pulled and all the subs started in on both teams) he was 1 for 8, minus 6 yards and two more INTs. He finished the night at 4 for 19, 14 yards and 4 INTs.
