Hart Dad
2004-Glendora First Round Playoffs
Home

Offensively, this was probably the best performance of the year for Hart. Same for the defense. But for a minor clitch here and there, Hart moved the ball very well, awesomely so in the first half. Defensively, Hart also performed very well with only a couple of "asleep at the switch" moments, a vast improvement over the last few games.

I missed virtually the entire first quarter (traffic and the fact that only one person was selling tickets) so much of what I have for the first quarter is from DRinSCV.

Glendora took the opening kickoff: 1-yard run, 5 yard penalty for procedure, incomplete and then with third and long (the Hart bugaboo of late), a SACK for a ten yard loss followed by a punt.

Hart started at the 42: pass to wolfe for 19, run by Lyon for 2, run by Bright for 0 (Robbie Casselbury did not play RB the whole night; that role was filled by Bright and Delano Howell, a freshman); pass to Yudin for 15, run by Howell for 7, run by Bright (?) for 4, run by Lyon for -1, SACK for -1 and pass to Wolfe for 13 and the TD. Hart 7-0.

Glendora at the 34: pass for 9, run for 10, run for 2, pass for 14, run for 8, run for 5, pass for 8, run for 1, penalty against Hart for offsides (+5) then a 2 yard run for the TD. The kick was wide left so it was Hart 7-6.

Hart at the 24: pass to Wolfe for 6, pass to Surratt for 39 [this is where I finally arrived] pass to Surratt for -3 [END OF QUARTER], incomplete and then a 34-yard pass to Yudin for the score. Hart 14-6 at 11:34.

Glendora at the 24: run for 3, incomplete, run by the QB (flushed) for 6 and punt (Hart had no one back, convinced that a fake punt was in the works so there was a big roll).

Hart at the 10: pass to Wolfe for 1, pass to Yudin for 12, run by Wheeler on a slot counter for -7, pass to Leigh for 33 (his biggest catch of the year), run by Bright for 4, incomplete (knocked down), pass to Yudin for 47 and the TD. Hart 21-6 at 7:42.

Glendora at the 20: Penalty for procedure -5, pass for 51 (biggest play of the night for Glendora), run for -1 (fumbled snap), run for 6, SACK for -9 and a fake punt -- a pass which Patrick Meza (wisely) knocked down though he could have intercepted it.

Hart at the 33: Penalty for holding -10 (Bright had about a 30 yard run on the play and the holding played no role); penalty - pass interference +15, pass to Wolfe for 13, pass to Leigh for 16, penalty procedure -5, run by Bright for 18, run by Bright for 8 (and the first play in the drive that was not a first down), run by Lyon for -4 (a high snap), pass to Wolfe for 13, rush by Wolfe for 2 and then run by Lyon for 1 and the TD. Hart 28-6 at :26.

Glendora: run for 5 and halftime.

First half summary: Lyon was 14-16 for 258 yards and 2 TDs. Bright had 34 yards on 5 carries, Lyon had -6 yards on 5 carries and a TD (one sack), Howell had 1 carry for 7, Wheeler 1 for -7 and Wolfe 1 for 2 yards. Wolfe also had a catch for a TD.

The Glendora QB was 4 for 6 and 83 yards. Glendora had 25 yards rushing on 14 carries including 2 sacks.

Hart was not quite as efficient in the second half. Hart took the second half kickoff and started at the 29: run by Bright for 1, pass to Surratt for 14, pass to Surratt for 26, run by Howell for 8, pass to Wolfe for 12, run by Bright for 0, SACK for -6, incomplete and the attempted FG was wide left (the first missed FG of the year?).

Glendora at the 20: pass for 6, SACK for -10 by Ardnt (?) on a really bad call (should have been called a fumble), inc. with a penalty after the play (unsportsmanlike?) with the ball moved back to the 8, punt.

Hart at the Glendora 46: incomplete (Drop), run by Bright for -4, run by Lyon (flushed) for 4, punt.

Glendora: run for 1 and then INT by Wolfe (honestly, it look like Wolfe was running the route and the pass was deliberately to him).

Hart at the 13: run by Howell for 3 and then a fumble recovered by Glendora.

Glendora at the 10: Inc., run for -2 (fumbled) and then INT by Onawuachi of a deflected pass.

Hart at the 6: run by Lyon for the TD. Hart 35-6 at 2:24 in the 3rd quarter.

Glendora at the 23: run for -3, pass for 10, incomplete and punt.

Hart at the Hart 41: pass to Wolfe for 1, run by Bright for 4 [END OF QUARTER], pass to Bright (his first of the season) for 3 and punt.

Another personal foul was assessed against Glendora so they started at the 10: incomplete, run for 2, penalty for -5, incomplete and punt.

At this point, Moore came in at QB and Hart started at the Glendora 31: run by Howell (fumbled exchange) for -5, run by Moore for 3, incompleted and sack for -3.

Glendora at the 36: run for 0, run for 35 (biggest run of the night), incomplete (tipped by Wolfe), incomplete (tipped by Hetman), incomplete (tipped), incomplete (tipped).

Hart at the Hart 29: run by Howell for 4, run by Howell for 12, run by Howell for -3, inc (to Howell), run by Howell for 7, a penalty for delay and punt.

Glendora took over at the 17 with 3:20 to play: run for 20, pass for 10, penalty (offsides) +5, run by QB for 16, run for 10, pass for 17, run for 5 and the TD. The 2-point conversion was good and it was Hart 35-14 at :55 to play.

Howell had a run for 2 and a run for 1 and the game was over.

Lyon finished at 19 of 23 for 314 yards and 3 TDs plus 2 TDs rushing.

This was one of the two best performances of the year for the Indians (the other being Loyola). There were a couple of things with which I was very impressed. First, the ball really got spread around on offense: rushing by Bright, Howell, Lyon, Wolfe and one carry by Wheeler in the first half. All four starting receivers had receptions in the first half and, more importantly, they caught the ball all over the field. For one of the first times this season, Leigh has some throws to him downfield. And there were a lot of receptions in the middle of the field. And the receivers were going after the ball very aggressively. The net effect was that the field was really stretched in all directions and the Glendora kids couldn't handle it. This was a huge improvement from the really short game last week.

Delano Howell had some very nice yards and there were passes to both Howell and Bright (heretofore, Hart RBs had a TOTAL of 7 receptions for the entire regular season).

The defense was apparently not quite into it on the second Glendora series and gave up a lot of consistent yards. There after, the only thing Glendora got was the one big 51-yard pass play until the Hart subs starting coming in the game in the fourth quarter. The Tartans had no first downs between that long pass midway through the second quarter and midway in the fourth quarter when the subs came in.

I really like the facility -- Hey CIF, this is a much better place for a championship game than Angels Stadium. Lots of seating on both sides of the field (probably around 15k I would guess) which is very steeply sloped so all the seats end up closer to the field.

Next week -- presumably MV at COC.
