Hart Dad
2004-Saugus
Home

A mildly interesting game in the first half that turned into a Hart romp in the second.

The short summary: Hart scored on the first possession on a 5 yard run by Lyon. Hart 7-0. Lyon had two INTs and the quarter ended 7-0.

Saugus scored on an 8-play drive in the second to tie the game 7-7.

Hart took a minute and 30 seconds to score, the big play being a 52-yard run by Bright with a 12-yard pass to Wolfe for the score. It was 14-7 at half. Lyon was 11 of 16, 134 yards, a TD and 2 picks. Casselbury had 66 yards on 9 carries and Bright had 69 yards on 2 carries, Lyon had 3 yards on 3 carries and was sacked 2 times.

The Saugus QB was 5 of 6 for 45 yards and the Centurions had 69 yards on 22 carries.

In the second half, Hart scored on the Indians first possession. The big play was a 29 yard run by Casselbury for the TD. 21-7

Saugus went on a 14-play drive but gave up the ball on downs.

Hart scored on the first play of the 4th quarter on a 12 yard run by Lyon. The big play was a 61-yard run by Lyon. 28-7.

Hart scored on the next possession on a 21-yard pass to Yudin. Wolfe had a 33-yarder in the drive. 35-7.

On Hart's next possession, the second stringers came and Bright scored on a run up the middle for 38 yards. The snap was bad so no PAT. Hart 41-7.

Saugus kept in the first string and scored with 1:51 left and went for 2. 41-14.

Lyon finished at 17 of 24 for 212 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs.

Casselbury was 12 carries for 94 yards and a TD. Bright had 136 yards on 9 carries and a TD. Lyon had 78 yards on 6 carries and 2 TDs. Moore had 2 carries for -3. Hart had 305 yards rushing on 29 carries and 4 rushing TDs. Can't remember the last time Hart rushed for over 300 yards!.

Saugus QB finised at 16 of 23 for 140 yards and a TD although 74 of the yards were on the last drive against the 2d and 3d string. Rushing was 37 carries for 109 yards

Here's the play by play detail and some thoughts:

The Saugus kicker put it in the endzone so Hart started on the 20. The first play was a little shovel pass to Evan Surratt -- a variant on an end-around where the wide out comes in front of the shotgun QB and (I think) a couple of blockers pull. It went for 14 yards. Lyon was sacked on the second play for a 1 yard loss. He had all night (great job O-line!) but could not find a receiver. Pass to Wolfe for 14; Run by Casselbury (RC) for 24, pass to Leigh for 3, run by RC for 0, incomplete, pass to Yudin for 16, run for 1 by RC down to the 5-yard line and then run by Lyon for the D and it was Hart 7-0 at 7:51.

Saugus started at the 18: run for 4, inc (the receiver was leveled by Casselbury), run for 4 and punt for 42 yards.

Hart started at the 27: pass to Wolfe for 12 (great block by Yudin), run by RC for 25, run by RC for 2, pass to Wolfe for 1 and then an INT in the endzone on a pass to the left side but that was a tad short.

Saugus: pass for 16, run for 6, run for 9, run for 2, run for 4, run for 3 and on fourth and 1, run by the QB for not enough and Hart takes over at the 39.

Hart: run by Bright for 17 (Casselbury apparently became ill); then another INT this time on a pass that sailed high and was caught by the Saugus defender on a very nice dive.

Saugus started at the 24: Pass for 9, run for 2, run for 1 pass for 15 [QUARTER], run for no gain, PENALTY for late hit on QB, run for 8, run for 5, run for 7 plus a half the distance penalty for facemask taking the ball down to the 7; run for 5 by the QB, run for 1, by the QB, run for 0 by the RB and then run for 1 and a TD by the RB. The Hart coaches were mightily exercised by this one because the QB obviously pushed the RB into the EZ. 7-7 at 8:15.

Hart got a nice 24 yard return by Wheeler to the 24: run by RC for 11, run by Bright for 52 (through, around and under the entire Saugus defense), run by RC for 1, inc and then pass to Wolfe for 12 and the TD. Hart 14-7 at 6:45.

Saugus started at the 21: run for -7, pass for 0, pass for 12 and punt for 51 yards.

Hart started at the 23: pass to Wolfe for 8, run by RC for 0, pass to Yudin for 3, PENALTY-holding for -15, run by RC for , pass to Yudin for 20, incomplete and punt.

Saugus started at the 27 after a fair catch and very little time left in the half: run for 0, pass for -7 (on what appeared to be a fumble recovered by Hart), run by the QB for 12 out of bounds to stop the clock and 40 yard punt. However, there was an unsportsmanlike call against Saugus so Hart started at the 43.

Hart: sack for -2, spike and then pass to Wolfe for 31 and halftime.

Saugus returned the ball out to the 20 after halftime but called for a clip and started at the 10: run for 1, pass for 7, run for -4 (sack?) and 42 yard punt.

Hart at the 44: run by RC for 5, inc, pass to Wolfe for 20, run by RC for 29 and the TD. Hart 21-7 at 8:29.

Saugus started at the 20: run for 5, run for 7, run for 3, inc, pass for 12, run for -1, run for 12, run for 3, run for 4, run for 5, inc., run for 4, pass for 2 and on 4th down at the Hart 24, pass for -2 and Hart takes over.

Hart: run by Bright for -2, pass to Surratt for 9, run by Lyon (that's right the QB -- a called play) for 61; run by RC for -6 and [QUARTER] then 12-yard run by Lyon for the TD. Hart 28-7 at 11:55.

Saugus at the 35: run for 3, run for 0, pass for 2 and punt.

Hart started at the 30: run by Bright for 0, pass to Wolfe for 33, inc., run by Lyon for 2, PENALTY (pass interference), pass to Wolfe for 4, pass to Yudin for -5, then pass to Yudin for 21 and the TD. Hart 35-7 at 7:05.

Saugus started the next series at the 10 following another PENALTY for unsportsmanlike conduct: inc., pass for 10, inc., inc., run for -3 (great tackle by Sarkissian) and punt for 40.

Hart started at the 43 and the second stringers were all in: run by Bright for 14, run by Bright for 0, PENALTY offsides and run by Bright for 38 and a TD. The snap was fumbled so it was 41-7 with 3:45 to play.

Saugus started at the 23 and elected to keep the starters on the field, pass for 11, inc, pass for 11, run for 2, run for 4, pass for 21 and then pass for 28 and the TD.

Following an onside kick which Hart recovered: run by Bright for 9, run by Moore for -3 and run by Bright for 8, a knee and its a game.

All-in-all a nice game for the Indians. Lyon was 17 of 24 for 212 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. The INTS were both tough plays by the Saugus defenders.

The biggest thing was Hart rushing: Casselbury had 94 yards on 12 carries and a TD. Lyon had 78 yards on 6 carries (including sacks!) and 2 TDs. The kid is pretty darn fast once he gets rolling. The star runner of the night was Bright with 136 yards on 9 carries and a TD.

The offensive line did a good job, giving Lyon a ton of time. Any problems were from coverage, not from protection. A couple of quirks though. The center was really zipping the ball and its fortunate that Lyon is both very tall and has very good hands because an unusually large number of snaps were very high.

The center appears to have hurt his shoulders in the 4th quarter.

The defense is somewhat bendable between the 30s but is really tough thereafter.

Saugus seemed really fired up after their first TD but when Hart scored quickly on the next series it seems like all the fire went out of the Centurions.

Next week Burroughs.
