There's not a whole lot to say here. Hart played reasonably well. Golden Valley did not. Hart's Dimitri Diamond had
a big night but it has to be qualified because of the opposition.
I kind of felt sorry for the GV punter. He appeared to have a pretty decent leg but in the first quarter he was punting
into about a 30 mph wind so it made things tough.
A fairly quick summary.
GV: 3 and out. The punter had about a 30-yard punt which, under the conditions, was decent. Hart scored on a 5-play drive
which ended with a 10-yard pass to MacArthur (good to see him back at receiver!). Diamond had 39 yards on 3 carries in the
drive. Hart 7-0 at 8:55.
GV: 3 and out. This time the punt was very high, hung in the wind and was only about 14 yards. Hart scored 2 plays later
on a 39 yard run by Diamond a fly play. Hart 14-0 at 7:05 in the first quarter.
GV: 3 and out. This time the punt was a little flatter and thus went further. Diamond had a 30-yard pass reception but
on the next play Hart fumbled after a long run.
GV: 3 and out. This time the very decent punt was a fair catch. Hart scored two plays later on a 54-yard run by Souza after
he was flushed from the pocket. 21-0 Hart at 2:58 in the second quarter.
GV: not 3 and out as usual. A 15-yard personal foul penalty gave the Grizzlies their first first down of the night.
However, they did punt four plays later. Hart then scored on a 6-play, 83-yard drive ending with a 29-yard run by Stephens.
The PAT was into the wind and missed. 27-0 Hart at 9:36 in the second quarter.
GV: got another first down but it was still "3 and out" because of an interception by Cox. Hart scored on a 53-yard 4-play
drive ending with a 15-yard pass to Diamond. The PAT missed again. 33-0 Hart at 6:44.
GV: 4 and out though, with the wind, the punts got considerably longer. Hart went on a 4-play drive which ended with an
interception by Figueroa at about the GV 30.
GV drove down to the Hart 16 on 7 running plays but then Allmond intercepted a pass on the goal line to end the drive and
the half.
The most notable first half state was the GV passing: 0-6 with 2 interceptions. Souza was 8 for 12, 128 yards, 2 TDs and
1 INT. He ran for 100 yards on 5 carries and a TD. Diamond had 87 yards rushing on 5 carries and 1 TD. He had 2
receptions for 45 yards and a TD. Stephens had 3 carries for 52 yards and a TD and 2 catches for 40 yards. MacArthur had 1
catch for 10 yards and a TD. Borland had catches 2 for 18 yards and Goodrich had 1 for 14.
Second half
Diamond returned the kickoff 99 yards for a TD. Hart 40-0 at 11:45 in the third quarter.
GV: 6 and out. Souza played only one play at QB and then Borland subbed at QB. Stephens played the first 3 plays and
then subs came in for him as well. Unfortunately in this drive, Hart was again 3 and out with a fumble on the fourth play.
GV: 3 and out with an unsuccessful fake punt. Hart ran out of downs at the GV 31 with two more fumbles (both recovered
by Hart) in the mix.
GV: 3 and out, this time the drive ended on an interception by Hairston who returned it to the GV 33. Hart scored on a
25-yard run by Allmond for the TD (he had all the yardage on the drive). Hart 47-0 at 8:15 in the fourth quarter.
GV: 2 and then a fumble. Hart ran off a lot of plays but turned it over on downs. GV got down to the Hart 30 on the final
drive when J.K. McKeon intercepted a 4th down pass near the goal and ran the clock out.
So who is it next week? My guess -- Oxnard.
