Well, the Indians won. At the end of the day, that's all that matters but I can't say it was pretty.
The First Half
West Ranch took the opening kickoff and went three and out. The punt was not fielded and rolled forever for a 58-yard punt
and Hart started at the 20. Hart went on an 11-play drive (9 straight runs followed by 2) . A 20-yard pass
to Borland was for the TD and it was Hart 7-0 at 5:17 in the first quarter.
West Ranch immediately countered with a 13-play 80-yard drive concluding with a 1-yard run by Bernards for the TD. 7-7
at 10:08 in the second.
Hart went from the 20 out to the 50 but had to punt. West Ranch matched it with a 5 and out drive. Hart then went 4 and
out. West Ranch went 4 and fumble. Hart got the ball at the 35 with :43 seconds left in the half and drove down to the West
Ranch 30 but two incompletes ended the half at 7-7.
The only interesting stat for the first half: no penalties on either team.
The Second Half
Hart started the second half at the 20 and drove down to the 4 when Souza threw a nice pass that was dropped in the endzone
on 3rd down. (Hart had a holding penalty in this series, the first penalty of the game on either team.) Reyes kicked a 21-yard
field goal to make it 10-7 Hart at 8:36 in the third.
West Ranch started at the 17 and went on a 15-play drive but an illegal procedure penalty, an incomplete in the endzone
(almost caught but bobbled out of bounds) and then a pass that was just short of a first down ended the drive and Hart took
over at the 20 with :32 left in the third quarter.
Hart went on a 10-play drive and scored on a 5-yard pass to Borland. West Ranch went offsides on the PAT so Hart went for
two on the second try, a run by Souza, to make it 18-7 Hart at 7:53 in the fourth.
West Ranch came right back scoring on an 80-yard drive that ended with a 33-yard pass to #36 (awful Hart tackling). The
two-point PAT missed and it was 18-13 Hart at 5:31 of the fourth.
Hart got a nice return by Allmond out to the 40 and moved down to the WR 30 but got stuffed/fumbled on 4th and inches.
West Ranch got the ball at the 29. Here's the final series: PENALTY for illegal receiver downfield for -5, incomplete (almost
INT), pass to Madera for 9, PENALTY for holding (Bernards had a very big run but it was an obvious hold early in the play;
the ensuing run basically took a lot of time off the clock for Hart), incomplete (very close to an INT) and then a SACK for
-10 and Hart took over.
Stats
Hart: Souza was 10 for 22, 2 TDs and 114 yards. He rushed 15 times for 121 yards with 1 fumble and was sacked once. Stephens
carried 12 times for 66 yards. Diamond had 6 carries for 86 yards. Borland had 7 catches for 86 yards and 2 TDs. Diamond had
3 receptions for 28 yards.
West Ranch: I didn't have a program so I wasn't sure who had the rushing yards (other than when the QB ran) or the receptions
but here's the overall picture. Bernards was 8 of 17 for 101 yards and a TD. He ran for 37 yards and a TD on 8 carries. The
running backs were collectively 26 carries fir 159 yards.
