While Golden Valley is still significantly behind the top Foothill teams, they are a vastly improved team over last year.
The Grizzlies scored both TDs in the first half against the Hart first team defense. Interestingly, the Hart second team
held GV scoreless in the second half but then the Grizzlies kept the Hart second team out of the endzone in the second half
as well.
The short description: GV fumbled the opening kickoff and Hart recovered on the 21. Hart passed on all three downs in
the drive with Felt catching an 11-yard pass for the TD. 7-0.
The Grizzlies got a 25-yard return and a first down on the next drive but had to punt.
Hart started on the 15 and 3 passes later scored. Howell appeared to score on a 59-yard pass on the second play of
the series but a holding called downfield brought it back, turning it into a 19-yard gain instead of a 59-yard TD. Hart scored
on the next play on a 45-yard pass to Felt. 14-0.
GV then scored on an 80-yard, 9-play drive, the score coming on a 32-yard pass from Coleman to McGreggor. 14-7.
GV pooched the next kickoff just about perfectly -- "just about" being the operative words. Jacob Souza caught
the ball along the left side line just about when the GV guys arrived. Two steps and he was by most of them and returned
the kickoff about 65 yards for the TD. 21-7.
After a 3 and out, Hart went on a 6-play, 67-yard drive (with the first running play of the game as part of the drive).
The TD was a 22-yard pass to Felt. 28-7. That ended the FIRST quarter.
GV got to the Hart 49 on the next series. Tyler Wachter then intercepted a pass at the Hart 20. Next play: an 80-yard
pass to Felt in which he ran over, around and through just about everyone on the GV defense. Hart 35-7.
After another 3 and out, Hart started on the 20 again. On the first play, Howell went 80 yards on a screen pass that
was called back for holding. Hart ran the same play to the other side (right)for 40 yards. Two plays later Howell scored
on a 39-yard run (only the second running play of the game for Hart). 42-7.
After another 3 and out, Hart started on its own 45-yard line. Two plays later, Howell scored on a 44-yard run. 49-7
with 4:10 left in the half.
GV, starting on the 20 went on a 12-play 80 drive and scored on a 3-yard pass to Malinowshi but missed the PAT. 49-13
with 8 seconds left in the half.
Hart's bench played the second half and there was no scoring with a running clock the entire half.
Stats: Howell had 98 yards on 5 carries and 2 TDs. He also had 112 yards on 5 catches (and 2 more TDs that were called
back).
Holbrook was 13 of 14 for 314 yards and 4 TDs. Felt had 7 catches for 199 yards and 4 TDs -- a new Hart single game scoring
record for a receiver. Stinson had 1 catch for 3 yards and Diamond had 1 for 0. In the second half, Scholes was 3 for 3
for 34 yards. Stinson caught 2 for 27 yards and Goodrick had 1 for 7 yards.
The only Hart return yards the entire night were by Souza who had 1 for 70 yards and a TD and the second half kickoff
for about 8. Hart made no attempt to advance any other kickoffs or punts.
Next week all three games will be big: Hart-Saugus for the Foothill League championship, Canyon-Valencia for a playoff
spot and GV-WR for pride.
