In many respects, the game was not nearly as close as the final score might indicate.. Hart was up 27-3 at half and 41-9 in the fourth when the Westlake first team scored a TD against the Hart subs very late in the game.

The quick summary: Westlake took the opening kickoff at the 21 and eventually moved to the Hart 30, sputtered and kicked a 47-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead.

Hart went 3 and out. Westlake did the same. Hart started the Indians' second series at the 29 and on the first play, Felt took it to the house on a 71-yard pass. (Watch the Hart Indians website next week -- they'll put this one up, it was an AWESOME run after the catch by Felt). Hart 7-3.

Westlake punt. Hart punt. Westlake inserted the other QB (the righty?) who threw an INT to Eyrich on his third attempt. Hart went on a 10-play 44-yard drive and Howell took it in from the one. The PAT was wide right and Hart was up 13-3 early in the second.

On the ensuing Westlake series, Hart blocked the punt and recovered on the Westlake 4. Howell took it in two plays later. Hart 20-3 with 7:28 left in the half.

Westlake again went 3 and out but Hart fumbled the punt and the Warriors recovered. Westlake went 3 and out again. Hart went on a 12-play 80-drive with Holbrook scoring from the 2 on a keeper with 1 second left to make it 27-3 at half.

Second half: Hart 4 and out. Westlake scored on a 10-play, 80-yard drive, the TD coming on a 17-yard pass. The PAT missed. 27-9 at 7:35.

Hart 3 and out. Westlake -- 1 incomplete and then another INT. Hart scored on a 3-play 83-yard drive with Holbrook taking it in -- on a 74-yard run! Hart 34-9.

Westlake 3 and out. Hart 3 and out. Westlake turned it over on downs at the 31. Hart got down to the Westlake 35 then got hit with a holding penalty that backed the ball up 22 yards and then punted. The returner appeared to take his eye off the ball at around the 18, the ball got by him and after a lot of scrambling, Hart recovered on the 3. Howell took it in from there. 41-9 at 8:32.

Westlake scored on a 76-yard drive to make it 41-16 at 4:15. Hart then went 3 and out, Westlake turned it over on downs and it was over.

Westlake had a couple of absolute killer errors. I called the blocked punt well in advance. On the first two Westlake punts, the long snapper kind of lofted the ball back there but Hart was making no attempt at a block. Obviously, the Hart coaching staff saw the same thing as I did and on the third Warrior punt, the Indians went for the block and got it.

Neither Westlake quarterback had a good night but the one kid just could not catch a break. At one point he was 1 for 16 with 2 interceptions, a sack and an intentional grounding. If I have this right, I think his first completion was on the last Westlake scoring drive where he completed a 2-foot shovel pass. His next two passes, including another shovel, were incomplete.

Holbrook was not quite as "on the money" as last week and his receivers dropped a few too but he more than made up for any passing shortage with spectacular running.

The Hart defense was again very, very solid. I get the feeling that there is still a little adjusting going on out there with Hart subbing fairly freely with one or two linemen and one linebacker. Hart is sometimes is running a 4-3 and at other times, 3-4.

Westlake got a 21-yard return to the 24: pass for 2, run for 2, run for 10, PENALTY roughing +15, incomplete, run for 3, PENALTY offsides, run by the QB for 2, run by the QB for 2, incomplete, run for 29, run for 6 and the TD. 41-16 at 4:15.

Hart at the 20 (subs): QB run for 5, RB run for 1, incomplete and punt.

Westlake at the 42: pass for 1, run by QB for 1, run for -3 and run for 0 to end game.

Holbrook was 10 of 21 for 131 yards and 1 TD. He also had 124 yards on 12 carries including 2 rushing TDs. Howell 124 yards on 23 carries and 3 TDs. He also had 22 yards on 2 catches. Brian Felt had 2 catches for 94 yards and a TD. Demitri Diamond had 2 for 4 yards, and Souza had 4 for 11 yards. The yardage appears somewhat paltry but that is due in large part to Hart playing on a VERY short field including scores on two 3-yard drives.

Next week is our only trip out of the SCV to Claremont.
