On paper this should have been a great matchup. It didn't work out that way. Hart was up 28-0 eight minutes into the game,
35-0 at half and 41-0 well into the fourth quarter. All of the TO scoring came after the Hart starters were off the field.
Delano Howell was awesome tonight; in fact, the most awesome runner in a single game in Hart history. He had 72 yards
and 3 touchdowns in the first quarter, 72 yards and a touchdown in the second quarter and 127 and a touchdown in the third
quarter. He ended the night with 271 yards and five rushing touchdowns on 19 carries. Pettee was 11 of 18 for 142 yards, 1
interception and no touchdowns. Pettee had his wheels on as well. He ran for 46 yards and a touchdown on 6 carries. Between
Howell and Pettee, Hart averaged 12.7 yards a carry. In short, Thousand Oaks just could not stop the run. Hart's run defense
was stifling in the first half, holding TO to -6 yards on 13 carries. The passing wasn't much better at 8 of 18, 94 yards
and 1 interceptions. TO's first half possessions: punt, punt, interception, punt downs, punt and downs.
Here's the detail.
Thousand Oak's Taylor Malm returned the opening kickoff 21 yards to the 23: incomplete, run by Cloney for 7 (flushed),
run by Lister for 2 and punt.
Hart at at the 17: pass to Vairo fo 25, incomplete, incomplete (both dropped when the receivers took off before tucking
it away; I like the confidence!), pass to Heirshberg for 21, run by Pettee for 14 (great fake pass), run by Howell for 23
and the touchdown. Hart 7-0 at 9:03.
TO got a 5-yard return by Malm: incomplete, run by Lister for 0, SACK for -8 (Rojas) and punt.
Hart got a 10-yard return by Howell and started at the Thousand Oaks 30: pass to Howell for 11, run by Howell for 19 and
the touchdown. Hart 14-0 at 6:47.
Mendenhall kicked into the endzone and TO started at the 20: pass to Malm for 12 and then INTERCEPTION by Vasquez, a defensive
lineman who had dropped back into coverage and tipped the ball and then caught it. He returned it 1 yard.
Hart at the TO 33: run by Howell for 13, run by Pettee for 12, run by Pettee for 8 and the touchdown. Hart 21-0 at 5:29
of the first quarter.
There was "roughing the kicker" penalty on the PAT so Hart kicked off from the TO 45. Mendenall lofted it over
the front line along the left sideline. The ball took a perfect bounce along the sideline and Reyes recovered for Hart. Hart
at the TO 23: incomplete (receiver fell down), run by Pettee for 6 (flushed), run by Howell for 8, run by Howell for 4, run
by Howell for 5 and the touchdown. Hart 28-0 at 4:12 in the first quarter.
Malm had a 22-yard return to the 22: incomplete, pass to Sheehan for 12, pass to Malm for -2, pass to Sheehan for 16 (DB
fell down), run by Lister for 2, incomplete, incomplete and punt.
Hart at the 4: run by Howell for 4, incomplete, incomplete and punt. The punt was highlight reel material. Howell was
at the very back of the endzone and it looked like the snap was over his head. He leaped and snagged it with one hand, pulled
it down and punted, barely avoiding a block.
TO at the Hart 32: run by Malm on a reverse for -6 [END OF QUARTER], incomplete, run by Lister for 12 on a draw and, on
fourth down, incomplete.
Hart at the 26: run by Howell on a draw for 14, Pettee for 4 (flushed; he escaped from a sure sack), INTERCEPTION by Auguste.
TO at the 24: pass to Baker for 4, run by Lister for 4, run by Lister for -5 when Howell, on a corner blitz, got to him
about the same time he got the ball and punt.
Following a 15-yard PENALTY for a block in the back, Hart started at the 32: run by Howell for -1, pass to Davis for 8,
run by Howell for 4, pass to Vairo for 13, pass to Davis for 9, run by Howell for -2 and run by Howell for 37 and the touchdown.
Hart 35-0 with 3:59 left in the half.
TO got a 12-yard return by Malm to the 24: run by Cloney for 4 (flush), pass to Malm for 21(Cloney was leveled as he threw;
it was surprising he even got the ball off), pass to Sheehan for 19, SACK for -15 by Howell on another corner blitz but also
a 15-yard PENALTY from the spot for a facemask which put the ball back in the same place; SACK for -11 by a blitzing Larimore;
incomplete (and very nearly an interception), pass to Malm for 12 and on fourth down, incomplete.
Hart got the ball at the 33 with a few seconds left: run by Howell for 16 to end the half.
Pettee was 6 of 12 for 97 yards and an interception. He ran for 44 yards on 5 carries and a touchdown. Howell had 144
yards on 13 carries and 5 touchdowns.
Cloney was 8 of 18 for 94 yards and 1 interception. He ran 6 times for -19 yards including 3 sacks. Lister ran 6 times
for 19 yards and Malm ran once for -6.
Second half.
Hart started at the 20: run by Howell for 25, pass to Davis for 8 (a great catch on a pass thrown behind him on a crossing
route), pass to Vairo for 16, run by Howell for 4, run by Howell for 2, incomplete and on fourth down at the 25, incomplete.
TO at the 25: run by Lister for 15, incomplete, run by Lister for 10, run by Lister for 1, incomplete, incomplete and
punt.
Hart at the 4: run by Howell for 53, pass to Davis for 2, run by Pettee for 2, pass to Davis for 14, pass to Heirshberg
for 5, run by Howell for 20 and the touchdown. Hart 41-0 at 4:14 left in the third quarter.
TO got a 19-yard return by Malm and started at the 21: SACK by Vasquez for -6, pass to Sheehan for 22, run by Lister for
16, run by Malm for 4, incomplete (dropped by the Hart DB), incomplete and punt.
Hart at the 20: Run by Howell for 23[AND THE NEW HART RUSHING RECORD]. After that play, the offensive starters, at least
the skill positions, were out. Levingston for 1, Levingston for 1 and then SACK of backup quarterback Holbrook for -8. A holding
penalty was declined and Hart punted.
TO at the 29: run by Lister for 5, pass to Sheehan for 3, run by Lister for 4, [END OF QUARTER] incomplete, incomplete,
pass to Malm for 20, incomplete, pass to Luft (?) for 11, run for -1, incomplete and then pass to Sheehan for 11 and the touchdown.
Hart 41-7 with 7:44 left in the game.
TO successfully executed an onside kick and started at the Hart 49: run by Lister for 2 pass to Lister for 22, pass to
Lister for 25 and the TD. The PAT missed and it was Hart 41-13 at 6:18 in the fourth quarter.
The onside kick failed this time and Hart started at the 46: Diamond run for 9, Holbrook run for 3, Diamond run for -1,
Stephens run for 4, Diamond run for 5 and on fourth down, Diamond run for 0.
TO at the 34: run by Lister for 2, run by Lister or 9, pass to Sheehan for 10, pass to Malm for 22, incomplete, pass to

for 46 yards on carries and 1 touchdown. Howell had 127 yards on 6 carries in the third quarter and finished with 271 yards
on 19 carries and 5 touchdowns. He also had 1 reception for 11 yards and another 10 on returns. Davis was the leading receiver
with 6 catches for 57 yards. Vairo had 2 for 38 and Heirshberg at 2 for 26.
While the entire first team was still in the game in the third quarter, Cloney was 2-7 and 38 yards and was sacked once
for -6. Lister ran for 30 yards on 4 carries. Thereafter, Hart started subbing in kids and Cloney finished out at 11 for 16,
157 yards and 3 touchdowns. Lister got another 21 yards on 6 carries.
Cloney's final stats looked pretty good: 21 of 41 for 289 yards and 3 TDs. He had -25 yards on 7 carries and was sacked
4 times. Lister had 70 yards on 16 carries and Malm -6 on 1 carry.
Next week: A rematch with St. Bonnie.
