Hart had at least one genuine star in the 1960s, Clint McKinney. He set a single game rushing record in 1966 that lasted
until 2005. He was only a sophomore at the time and had over 1000 yards for the year. Unfortunately, his junior year was
marred by injury but he contributed 187 yards to the record team rushing effort against Nordoff in 1967 which is still the
Hart record 40 years later. In 1968, he again rushed for over 1136 yards which surely must have been a Hart record at the
time. He was the star of the "all-star" game in the late summer after his senior year.
McKinney went to the University of Tulsa for a year and then returned to the Santa Clarita Valley to play on the first
COC football team. He rushed for 1,490 yards, including a community college record 413 yards in one game, breaking the former
one-game record of 304 yards held by O.J. Simpson. McKinney was named the Desert Conference's MVP.
Hart's 1968 team had a perfect 9-0 regular season but then lost to San Luis Opisbo in the first round of the playoffs.
The last year of the decade was the first entry into the Hart-Canyon saga with Hart winning 6-0.

In the Rio Mesa game, Clint McKinney ran for 242 yards on 22 carries, scoring 3 touchdowns. That remained the Hart single
game rushing record for 40 years until Robbie Casselberry ran for 249 yards against Burbank in 2005 (a record that lasted
only one season).

1967 (4-5)
While the 1967 season was generally lackluster, there was one terrific performance of note.
In the Nordoff game, the Indians rushed for 512 yards which is still the school record. Bill Staadts had 213 of those
yards. Junior Clint McKinney had 187 yards.
In that same game, the team set a school record for points scored in a game, 55, surpassing the old mark of 52 set against
Birmingham in 1954.

A Perfect (Regular) Season
The 1968 Indians were the best team in a decade, winning 9 straight to start the season and, for the second time in Hart history,
registering a perfect regular season record. Unfortunately, Hart ran into a buzzsaw at SLO in the playoffs, giving up 20
points for the first time in the season.
Clint McKinney had several terrific games with 162 yards against Santa Clara (averaging over 10 yards a carry), 200 against
Santa Paula and 175 against Fillmore. He finished the season with about 1150 yards.

More Shutouts!
Te 1969 Indians were very solid defensively but inexplicably, gave up 46 points to Santa Paula late in the season. As a result,
the Indians tied for the Frontier Conference championship.
