1970 (6-3)
The "Go-Go Defense"
The 1970 team continued an on-going tradition of solid defense going back to the late 1950's, recording four shutouts and
missed a fifth only because the offense gave up two safeties early in the season. They were known as the "go-go defense."
The 1970 team was headed to the playoffs but was ambushed in the final game of the season by Canyon, the first Cowboy
win over Hart.
Running back Steve Toney and linebacker Mike Smith were named all-CIF.

1971 (9-2)
The 1971 team was the Marmonte League Champion for the first and, as it turns out, only, time during the several seasons Hart
was in that league.
Hart played in the CIF AAA playoffs that year, beating Beverly Hills in the first round and then losing to Crespi in the
rain in the second round.
Another fact of note: Hart recorded it's second shutout in three games against Canyon, winning 39-0, the second worst
thumping Hart has put on Canyon in the long history of that rivalry (the 55-8 game in 1999 is the largest margin of victory
for Hart).
Guard Gorden King was named all-CIF.

1972 (5-4)
1972 was Hart's and Canyon's second and last year in the Marmonte League. It seems the other teams wanted Hart and Canyon
out because of travel costs (keep in mind there was no 118 freeway so it was a tedious trip from the SCV to the Simi Valley
and beyond.)
While Hart's overall performance in 1972 was not notable there was one game of interest. In the Oxnard game, Greg Duncan
had 7 receptions for 221 yards, a Hart record until 1997.

1973 (1-8)
In 1973 the Indians (and the Canyon Cowboys) were moved to the Foothill League. It was a dismal season for Hart. After winning
the first game, Hart went on an eight-game losing streak which included four shutouts. Hart lost every league game and scored
only 71 points for the whole season.

1974 (4-5)
Hart's second season in it's first stint in the Foothill League [Hart later left for the Golden League for awhile] was again
dismal with Hart going 2-5 in league. It was particularly frustrating because, with one exception, all the losses were by
very narrow margins.
On the positive side, Hart beat Canyon in the season finale. Even that bright spot was marred by a fist fight among the
players following the game.
This was the first season that Hart played home games at COC.
Dennis Spasbo intercepted four passes in the Agoura game which remains the Hart record today. He was the "leading
receiver" for Agoura that day. The Signal selected him as the player of the week. In the picture accompanying the article,
he looks remarkably like Harry Potter (same glasses, same haircut and looks about 12 years old).
