Dear Pastors, Elders and Brothers and Sisters in the Lord:

Greetings to you in the Lord. Our heartfelt thanks to you for your prayers and support. We believe that it is due largely to your support that we can continue to serve in the mission field today. At the end of 1999, we answered God's call to the mission field, leaving Harrisburg Chinese Alliance Church in Pennsylvania that we had pastored for more than five years. After one year of language training in Costa Rica, at the end of 2000, we officially settled in Panama of Central America. The target of our service is the Chinese people, because there are about 1,300,000 Chinese in Panama. Yet at the time, there were only four Chinese churches. We faced such a large harvest field where the ratio of believers in Christ numbered less than 0.5% of the population. God surely had his wonderful will in sending our family to this foreign land.

In the first half month, we needed to adapt anew to the weather, ways of life, and language. It was not easy, but thanks be to God, under his care and safe-keeping, we overcame the many difficulties, and passed the last five years in peace. This is all because of God's grace. After we came to Panama, we served in the Panama Chinese Alliance Church untill today. The church has seven years of history. She's planted by a missionary couple, Rev. Andrew Leung and Mrs. Ruth Leung. Though they are now in their eighties, their hearts of service to the Lord is still fervent. Today, they are still side by side with us in Panama admist the good fight. Furthermore, they actively travel to many places in promotion of world evangelism. Their faithfulness and heart of mission are truly worthy of our immitation.

In God's grace, the church that we pastor continues to grow. Currently, membership consists of approximately 100 people: about 60 adults, and 40 youth and younger children. The place of worthship that we are renting is filled beyond its capacity. Hence, two years ago, we started searching for a new place and started raising a building fund. Thank God that we found a suitable place at the end of last year. After prayers and consensus of the congregational meeting, the church decided on the purchase of that property. We officially signed the purchasing agreement at the end of February. The property includes a building on the land. The building was previously operated as a bar. We will rebuilt it to be a worship place. Apart from which, on the same premise, we plan to establish a daycare facility, youth center, short-term missionary dormitory and school. Such is the vision that God imparts to our coworkers. We pray for the speedy realization of our hope, so that the Gospel can soon be spreaded throughout Panama and the entire territory of South Central America. The land and building had an asking price of $900,000 US. We finally agreed to a closing price of $560,000 US. There will also be an estimated renovation cost of about $100,000 US. As of now, we have already paid 10% of the cost as down payment. In July, we will have to pay another 40%, and pay off the entire amount in November. At this point, the church already has raised about $160,000 US. We are still in need of $400,000 US. We pray that the churches and body of Christ can support us in your prayers and giving.
