Holiday Heat and Global Warming

It's a holiday Monday, So much like a Sunday, But the temperature soars And I long for a FUN day; I'd be snug in my home, Not bothering to drive, With weather much cooler In which I could thrive. But today there are people Around me in stores. There are many like me Who prefer the indoors. As electrical power Is keeping us cool, I see families with children Who are home from their school. Today I am parking Myself in a chair Inside a large building, Breathing warm, normal air. I have found me a shelter Away from the heat And I'm reading my book, Keeping all things neat. Unlike my own dwelling, With windows all around That let in the light, And the heat, and the sound, Where papers surround me (I'm too tired to sort) And laundry needs doing, And time comes up short --- This haven from heat Is inside a mall, My one last refuge This beginning of FALL. Yet I'm hearing an echo Of a warning once heard, Of a future we'll avoid If we heed every word. Recycle the cans, The paper, the glass, As around this land You continue to pass.
