Sculpture
Ruth likes the feel of clay. Her body, shoulders hips knees ankles, wedging. Fingertips digging, hand slapping, fist slugging. Pushing her chest into it. Wrapping her arms around its cold self. Drawing her palm across its surface, trailing the length of her little finger. It gives Ruth a thrill.

Throwing pottery is fun. All slippery, sloppy, splattering clay. Mounding and punching against the spinning wheel head to a perfect center. Pressing and pulling, letting go quick for an unholy wobble or fling across the room into a wall. The mystery of shape emerging from touch. The power in mastering the creation of form. The sheer thoughtfulness of a good foot. Containers. So the soup will not spill. Handy. But not really enough.
