These are abstracts I have done of Plymouth County Probate Letters of Administration for persons who died intestate (without a will).

If the deceased left a widow, usually the widow was granted administration of his estate, which confirms that the wife of the deceased was still living at that time. If the deceased was single, or the wife died before her husband, administration of the estate was often granted to one of the brothers, fathers, sons, daughters, or sons-in-law of the deceased. Letters of Administration help in establishing the date of death, and are often the first document created after a person died, although occasionally an inventory of the estate of the deceased will precede the Letters of Administration for the estate. The probate volume and page number are included.
