arise out of you a band of people inviting to
all that is
good. Enjoining what is right, and forbidding
what is
wrong: These are those who are successful."

- Women In Islam
- Women in Islam... is a
coalition of professional and social activist Muslim women representing a broad spectrum
of human rights interests. We were founded in 1992, in direct response to atrocities
perpetrated against Muslim women in the Rape Camps of Bosnia. These atrocities
crystallized our need to address issues affecting the Islamic community generally, and
women more specifically. In 1995 the United Nations 4th World Conference on Women in
Beijing, China provided an international form for Women in Islam to identify, access and
coordinate resources to advance the well being of all women.
- Our organization... is
dedicated to the empowerment of women through Islam. We seek to provide a forum for action
to improve the quality of life for Muslim women at home and abroad.
-
- Our mission...
- v to increase knowledge of our way of life - which includes the
elimination of social, cultural and religious stereotypes through critical analysis and
scholarly debate;
- v to support the economic, intellectual and spiritual development of
Muslim women
- v to eliminate ingrained and insidious practices that devalue Muslim
women globally;
- v to cultivate Islamic scholarship &
leadership among Muslim and our youth;
- v to provide a speaker's bureau of professional Muslim women;
- v to highlight significant scholarly works through symposia and other
