AFFIRMATIONS
By Armiya Nu'Man
What are "Affirmations"? Affirmations are vocally declaring what you
want, need, desire, and in most cases... can't get.
In Self-Development, many teachers of the Psychology of Mind teach that a person must
visualize mentally, and openly declare vocally what he/she wants. We have been told many,
many times that, "Thoughts are Things"; "If you can conceive it and believe
it, you can Achieve it", "As a man thinketh, so is he". These axioms are
true.
Our problem has been that many of us have never known how they work, and how to go about
accomplishing our goals. And the problem has been that we have not "affirmed"
our goals, made positive statements about accomplishing our goals.
Little do we understand that when we really want to accomplish something, we have to put
all the forces in nature at work to help us to realize it.
We have all heard about the "Power of Prayer". But, how many of us know that
Prayer is a form of "Affirmation" and "Petition". When we pray to the
Creator, in most instances we are asking the Creator's help in achieving something that we
want. And depending upon the intensity of what we want, we will pray over and over for
that something until we get it. Think about it. How many times have we said, "O Lord
if you will just let me do this, or get this, or bless me with a wife/husband, house, car,
etc." Yes we do this all the time. It is called "Petition." When we declare
and affirm that we "know that the Creator will answer us, this is Affirmation.
In the idea of Affirmation, we see that it is a positive idea. We declare without doubt
that this is what we are about, what we want, this is what we need. Some of us don't know
what to say. Say those things that will help you. Such as: "I am a creation of
God". "I can accomplish what I will, with God's help."
"There is no mountain too high for me to climb".
"I will get out of life what I put into it, if I put nothing in, I will get nothing
out, (like a bank).
"I may be broke, but I ain't poor".
"I don't know where I am going, but I sure ain't lost."
"A cloud cannot cast a shadow unless the sun is shining beyond it."
"First we form our habits, then they form us."
If we say positive things and begin to do positive things, we can perhaps change our
conditions. The Holy Qur'an gives an affirmation of, "God will never change the
condition of a people until they first change what is in themselves."
Let us from this day forward, affirm to say and do the right things. Let us make the
necessary changes that we need to make in order for us to get our life in order. There are
so many ways that we can help ourselves. We don't have to continue to wait on someone else
to do things for us.
Always remember and affirm that,
"God made me like he made all other human beings. I can be the most excellent human
being or the worse human being. I have both potentials".
I want to be the "Best that I can Be". "I must always remember that Life is
for Living!" Let me go out into the world and leave my Mark!"
