"If You're Gon' Be a Leader, Don't Stay Behind" - Remembering the Jackson Movement

This 2006 program series explored events of the Civil Rights Movement in Jackson, Mississippi between 1961 - 1963. Special emphasis was given to the contributions of young people to the success of the Jackson Movement. The progam series included presentations on the Freedom Riders, the role of the NAACP's youth chapters, the involvement of area high school and college students in local civil rights activities, and the historic library sit-in conducted by "The Tougaloo Nine."

The program series was co-sponsored by The Hamer Institute, Jackson State University, Tougaloo College, the Mississippi Department of Archives & History, Veterans of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement, and the Mississippi Humanities Council.
