DST

JennySlash was pretty furious about the attempt to extend Daylight Savings Time next year - "How in the hell does that save any energy?!" My response was unhelpful I suppose - pretty much, "who cares let's party!!"

I will be a happy camper if they do this for a number of reasons.

1) A longer period during the year that I can take the bike out after work. Riding in the morning sucks.

2) Should cover almost the entire grass-growing season, allowing me to cut the grass after a day already wasted with work, rather than having to use precious weekend hours to do so.

3) More time that I can run after work. I can run on the Greenway in the dark in the morning, but it "closes" at dusk and it's right next to the police station, so I can't run on it at after dark.

4) I am morally opposed to it being dark outside when I get off work and since that typically doesn't happen until well after 6 pm, standard time sucks in that respect.

So I really don't care whether it saves any energy or not - just do it!

Rudolph

It doesn't bother me that Eric Rudolph is not going to get the death penalty - I'm morally opposed to the death penalty period. But it does make me wonder if he's not convinced that he's either going to escape or be sprung somehow. He just seems to have that kind of personality. The other thing that I struggle with is the fact that he's likely to become more of a lightning rod for whackos alive than he would be dead. I also have a problem with my absolute belief in free speech when I think of the statement that Rudolph made after his court appearance. I think it comes down to this - there are things that I personally might be inclined to do (like breaking his damn jaw to keep him from ever uttering another word) that I don't believe government or society ought to do (or be able to do) on "our" behalf.

And can someone explain the logic of how killing innocent bystanders at the Olympics for christ's sake is supposed to be okay because it's all about stopping the "killing of babies"?

Bumper Sticker of the Week

In small letters on the rear bumper of a purple Dodge Grand Caravan minivan: "I guess I was punk once." That sounds so... resigned!

Spam

On what planet (or under the influence of what drugs) would an e-mail from someone I didn't know with a title of "Posses whatever drag you desire sherbert" prompt me to open it?

Spring!

Damn, I love this time of year! Lots to say and not much time to say it right now, so I'll just leave you with some purty pitchers and try to actually write some words in the next couple of days...
