Songs from Ed's CD now available as MP3s! Download or listen to one free here. |
Edward J. Smith was a phenomenal musican: songwriter, composer, guitarist, keyboard player and percussionist. He was also a close friend and bandmate for many years. Those of you who saw us play together around Connecticut remember Ed's wild energy on the congas and his magical, quiet touch on the guitar. He also had a great producer's ear and helped me work out some of my guitar arrangements on Rocket Science.
When Ed died in April, 1997, only one of his songs had ever been released on CD. However, he left many hours of self-produced digital recordings, and from these, a group of his friends have put together what we hope is a fitting selection of his songs and guitar instrumentals.
The new CD of Ed's work, Take Me Home, includes ten solo recordings - seven songs and three instrumentals:

The album has been issued by the Smith family and instead of offering it for sale, the family would like it to simply be made available to interested listeners for a donation. Anyone who knew Ed would understand.

The proceeds will go toward the costs of making this album, the eventual release of more of Ed's music in the future, and the Brimfield, Mass. Volunteer Fire Department.
| "Ed Smith was a phenomenal musician,
whether he was playing guitar, keyboards or congas. He was a
true individual, an iconoclast and a man who believed in the
purity of music and creativity. He was often found accompanying
or producing for one of his musical friends whom he encouraged,
counselled, and cajoled into following the true voice of their
muse." -- Ed McKeon, WWUH (from the liner notes to Take Me Home) |
