Anywhere after 5 months to before they can undress.

Early methods vary form one parent or DR to the next but they all seem to involve some combination of EC concepts, small rewards, and getting rid of the diapers, gradually or cold turkey. It is hard for a child to know what is going on at this early when they have a diaper on, so try to allow as many chances to pee without it. (Again be honest about what you will clean up!) But NEVER force a child to sit on a potty, which just makes it a dreaded object, you don't want that! It should be fun! (If you are pregnant and peeing every ten minutes don't let the annoyance at the need transfer to your kid!)

Potty traiing a child involves awarness of the event and both the ability and desire to hold it in and place it in the potty

While many modern theories hold that children have no idea what is going on in their own bodies, I have seen plenty of proof to the opposite. Children may not name it or understand your name for it at a young age, but they certainly do notice the experience. All you have to do is get them to care about it and try to keep it for the potty.

If a simple reward isn't enough you can take away 'big kid toys' (those that say 3 and up or 2 and up, crayons say that and are certainly safe with supervision), or restrict movement to an easy clean floor and let your child know the potty is there when needed. (Expand the territory for successes)

Advantages: Usually pted kid by 2.5

Disadvantages: More parental timing than child training. Often, frustration on the part of the child, who generally has other skills on their mind.

This is what we did with my son, he expressed intrest in that mystery room long before he could undress or knew what peeing was all about, we let him try and didn't want to go back. It was frustrating, but he did catch on at about 2.
