EC stands for Elimination Comunication, and IPT stands for Infant Potty Training.
The theory is that you allow your infant as many chances to know they are peeing and pooping from the get go, naked or cloth
with no cover is generally the method of choice, with some container for catching the pee/poop. (bucket, sink, potty, or
diapers stacked) Some mothers are very successful at catching much of the output, and many babies are more than willing to
learn what on earth that sensation is.
A modified option is to let your older baby stand in the tub after each diaper change and see what happens. Or allow your
upright sitter to sit on the potty frequently again to see what happens. Always be honest about what you can handle cleaning
up, a baby doesn't deserve to be yelled at for peeing!
Advantages: Fewer diapers from the start. Earlier average trained age. No diaper training to work against the potty training.
Disadvantages: A lot of parental timing, and a lot of 'catching' if started really early. And just about everyone but a fellow
ECer thinks you are crazy!

Back to potty buisness
Back to other potty training methods
The modified is what I did with my Daughter, she was fully trained around 1.5 years. and we really did save a lot of money
on diapers while she was younger. She had the advantage of watching her brother learn and of me already having to be in the
bathroom half a dozen times a day to assist him. I will be following this plan with all future children!
