Baby games
We play lots of games, and just adjust the rules so that children and adults of all ages can play.
Pictionary
I let the kids ask me what to draw, or I let them guess what I am drawing. I also help them draw what I drew. I am not an
artist, so no one but my children gets to see my work, but they love seeing things take shape.
Charades
We take turns being an animal, when my son gets a little older we will try a few more things, but for now he, and his sister,
act out animals, with the correct number of legs and correct sounds.
Blues Clues
We printed three blue paw prints on the computer and cut them out, then one of us hides them on three clues and then asks
the kids the question. While my son couldn't draw or write, we helped him put the clues on paper. Then we picked a thinking
spot to go sit at to figure out what the clues pointed to.
Hunt
Hunting can be done for any subject in any place. You can hunt for a certain letter, or word, or number, or sound, or shape,
or color, or plant, or animal etc.
We have hunted in just one room, or in the whole house, or while on a walk, or from the car (looking at signs, especially
if for some reason we are sitting in a parking lot). You can also hunt in books, or magazines, or photo albums.
Hunting can be done stationary if neccessary, but I prefer to be able to move (or rather my kids do!) so I like the walk
and find hunt, rather than the sit and see hunt (though sitting and observing is a very imoprtant skill)
Hunting could be for one object that meets the criteria, one object per person, or for as many objects as possible. Time
depending of course.
Once you find some things, if you can make a sculpture (stack) of them, it makes an interesting conversation piece for
the night. If you hunted in a magazine you could cut them out and make a collage. If it was a thick book, you might want
to place small bookmarks to go thru later and show off your success. Or just enjoy the success of a good find. (particularly
useful if the find is a living being)
Of course it helps if you name your hunt, "let's go on an E hunt" or whatnot.

For older children
Older being a relative term, but these games do require more patience than the average toddler posseses.
