Crib or bassenet or cradle or parents bed or dreser drawer? Babies need a place to sleep and we get to pick. Mght seem like
a big decision but really they are all pretty much the same.
So long as there is a safe place the decision is up to you.
Co -sleeping
So long as you remove plush bedding and pillows, and are not an extreamly heavy sleeper co sleeping is perfectly safe. While
nursing it is wonderful. The only worry is what to do when your child starts beating you up in the night, or if you have
older children they may be a bit less conciencious than mom or dad. When you are ready to stop there is a tearless way to
transition them, just use the 'fade out' self soothing method. It does take time though. you can also wait till your child
asks for their own bed, but that may take longer than you like.
Fade out
Moving up to the toddler bed or twin bed
I worry about small kids in 'big beds' they can be really tall these days. So we went with a toddler bed for the transition,
and even though we only used it for a short time with my son, we found it very useful because my daughter needed it so we
could have room ffor the next baby.
I personally think you can pretty much switch to the toddler bed once your kid can climb into it and you are tired of
having to pick them up for nap and bedtime.
For the real bed, unless it is as low as a toddler bed, I would wait till you have some proof your child will not roll
to much, those 'rails' often don't cover the whole bed, just the top or middle part, and some children wander aoround the
whole bed when they sleep. (my son is often upside down)
