July 13, 2009 - Yet Another Much Overdue Update 2

Still making slow progress on the Buick and Model T. I'll try and summarize some of the major accomplishments.

First, the radiator shell and headlight buckets have been painted and I installed the grill. Haven't gotten the rings for the headlight buckets painted because they are rusted out on the bottom and I'm still looking for replacements.

Second, I finally got around to dealing with the trunk floor. It and the bottoms of the side mount spare wells are the only major rust outs on the car. I looked all over for a replacement for the trunk but never found one. I even contacted a few shops that make replacement sheet metal looking for a quote, but no one ever got back to me. So I bought myself a bead roller and decided to fabricate my own replacement panels. The panels came out looking not too bad. I then got brave enough to cut out the rusty panels and weld in the new ones. It's not a professional job but it appears to be solid and will be hidden under the carpet anyway. With the trunk replaced I could now reinstall the gas tank. This way I can drive it around without having to have the passenger hold on to a 5 gallon gas can.

Third, I made a valiant attempt to start the wood for the rear doors. The pieces were turning out well but I quickly realized that it was going to take me 10 years to get them done. So I finally broke down and bought a set of door wood from David Entler in Pennsylvania. It was pretty pricey but they seem to be well done. In the last month I started replacing the wood in the rear doors. I've got it installed in both doors and have started to fit the doors to the body. One seems to fit well, but the other one has some issues that I still need to figure out.

Finally, work continues on the Model T. We've got the motor assembled and put into the frame and have also been working on respoking the wheels. We should be able to fire it up soon. And as if I don't have enough projects, my wife bought a 1963 Scout 80.
