Before purchasing gear, discuss it with experienced campers, hikers, kayakers, etc. It is really a bummer to spend a lot of money on something that turns out to be useless or worthless. All of us have learned the hard way at one time or another and know that experience is the best teacher of all. Some gear is essential and quality really matters. Other gear is the latest gimmick or fad and not worth the money. There are people that professionally test gear and can give you the scoop. Research before buying!
