Eagle's Wings students
first trained upstairs in Higher Ground
Coffee House.
Located on Pine Street (better known as
"bar street") we actually had
stabbings and shootings happen within a
few feet of our dojo after class was
dismissed and the children had gone
home. Jan and Mike Quigley,
Pastors of Spirit and Life Church, fully
supported the Karate for Christ
Ministry. They gave us a key and
free reign of the 2500 sq. ft. facility. We are deeply
appreciative of their support and
encouragement.
In April, 2003, God
was calling Pastors Mike and Jan Quigley
to move back to their home church in
Maryland and the church was
closing. First Baptist Church rolled out the
proverbial "red carpet" for
our Karate for Christ Ministry.
They gave us the key to one of their
out-buildings called "The
Gap". In May, 2003 we began
holding classes on the campus of First
Baptist Church. We were most
grateful for the use of that facility
and still use it for belt tests and
special classes on
Saturdays.
With
the added exposure of being housed by a
large church, we quickly outgrew
"The Gap" and were literally
overflowing onto the parking lot.
Pastor Bob Ingle graciously offered
Eagle's Wings use of the gymnasium. Once again, we
were overwhelmed by the support we have
found at First Baptist Church. The
gymnasium takes up the entire South Wing
of the facility.
We
have planted seeds, but since July, 2003, God
overwhelmed us as we have seen 28 people
receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
Several of our young martial artists are
now serving Jesus and have been baptized. Some of the
families from our martial arts ministry
are now calling First Baptist Church
"home". I'm
deeply humbled by miracle after
miracle. I pray that we will be
faithful to fulfill the calling He has
placed on our lives. I circled our
new "dojo" below.
