Here's the first page of my two-page article about things you can do to windows on structures to make them look more "lived-in."   The article appeared in the September 2007 issue of Model Railroader magazine.

The photo in the article was pretty small, so here's a larger version of the "Patty Lou's bakery" shot, showing the window boxes, the awnings, and the cat a little more clearly.

The cat, by the way, is painted to look like one of our real-life cats, Phyllis.

This is a shot that didn't make it into the article, showing the Builders in Scale window blinds, which are very effective.

And here's another shot that didn't make it into the article, showing the finished curtains from the outside, and also, if you look closely enough, the shade pull (made from a diesel lift ring) on the bottom of the window shade on the left.
