Purpose of GRIP
The purpose of this organization is to increase the popularity of our common interests, and to give a single voice to
the concerns of many. It's often easy for government to bypass or overlook individuals and to see our views as
unimportant. By banding together, we hope to strengthen our voice so that it is heard loudly and clearly, both at Town
Hall and at the voting booth. We hope to add new members so we will be able to grow and expand. By
developing relationships and friendships, the organization will become even stronger.
GRIP's Mission
Our mission is to protect our constitutional property rights beginning at the local level. We believe
that the best way for large landowners to keep their open land from development is to keep taxes low, and keep creative options
available to them. We believe in paying our fair share in property taxes, but want to be the majority stakeholder and decision
maker on matters concerning our property. We believe in sharing the beauty of our property with others while
not being dictated to as to how it should look. We believe that we, the property owners, know our land better
than anyone else, and should be the guardians of our land, not the government or it's minions. We strive to
make a difference by educating the property owning public, and giving them the tools they need to preserve and strengthen
their property rights, and use their land fully and respectfully.
"Those who cannot afford to sue currently have no protection of their property rights if they come in conflict with
a regulation." -Senator Steve Symms

Pam O'Dell, co-founder of GRIP accepts the "Property Rights Defender Award" from Property Rights Foundation
of America President Carol LaGrasse at the October 2007 PRFA Conference in Albany, NY .
At its 11th Annual National Conference in Albany the Property Rights Foundation of America honored Pamela O'Dell for her work
to inform Gardiner residents of the taxing facts behind the Town's new Open Space Plan. Co-founders of Gardiner Residents
for Individual Property (GRIP) O'Dell and Marion Kells exposed the true costs to the ordinary taxpayer of the $1.5 million
open space bond. At a townwide referendum, GRIP pressed to defeat the bond initiative, which only passed by one vote in the
November 2006 general election. In order to proceed to borrow money for open space initiatives, the Gardiner Town Board
must approve, subject to permissive referendum, each specific acquisition contract.
The Property Rights Foundation of America is a national, grassroots, New York-based not-profit organization dedicated
to the right to own and use private property in all its fullness as guaranteed in the United States Constitution.
GRIP is a not-for-profit grass-roots organization designed to inform and support property owners in the town (Gardiner)
and in the region.
It is an organization built by and for property owners who believe that there is strength in numbers when it comes to
the constitutional protection of individual property rights.
“The general rule is, that while property may be regulated to a certain extent, if regulation goes too far,
it will be recognized as a taking” - Oliver Wendell Holmes.
