UPDATE
More photos are around...I just stripped them from the site for now since I'm near my free storage qty limit. Lemme
know if you want photos that are blanks below, and I'll email 'em. konigman@yahoo.com
daTOY:
Mercury Mark 20H motor. Built primarily from 20H parts, but
1) we've been told that the forged saddle is NOT original 20H (forged, yes, but 20-H....not sure)
2) we know the cowls and front emblem are from a mk20
FUEL SYSTEM
Motor has original Carter carb with throttle connector, choke, fuel filter and fuel pump (yes, we know it's not a pump,
but we think its called a pump in the diagram…..the fuel reed pressure assembly for the two-line hose system.) Original
fuel cover is included as shown in the photos, which keeps the dual-line fuel connector covered and clean. Hose from fuel
fitting to fuel pump has the original spring to keep the hose from collapsing.
The current config is a conversion to a tillotson carb with real fuel pump and single-hose fitting, but the carter/pressure
system parts are still here.
STARTER
Rewind starter has the original fabric covered braided steel starter cable…see condition in photo. We can't guarantee
it is original 20H...might be mk20 or mk15.
MAGNETO
Ignition coils are new, manufactured in 2000. New spark plug wires. Original brass Phelon condensers were used with original
points cover and felt. One weak condensor has been replaced.
POWERHEAD
Flywheel, crankshaft taper and crankshaft threads are in excellent condition. Flywheel was lapped lightly to the taper
before installation. Crankshaft is original 20H with center main needle bearing. Surfaces are in excellent condition.
Block has been bored 0.015" oversize. Spark plug and bolt threads are all fine.
Connecting rods with no cap holes were used (stronger than the earlier ones with holes.) All bearing surfaces are in excellent
condition. New end cap nuts were used as we always do.
New bearings and seals were used throughout. Crankcase has crack repairs as shown in photos…two if I understand it
correctly ... one on the lower crank throw left side, and one at the top left side fo the case. This is commonly encountered
in 20H motors from our experience with this stuff in APBA racing in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Block and saddle serial numbers
do not match.
COWLINGS
Mk 20 cowlings we think. Front shield is mk20. Cowl bolts are correct original (7/16" hex head on 5/16" bolt
in the back).
LOWER UNIT
Original die cast gearcase with 1:1 gears. Threads, gears, case, shafts in excellent condition. Tailcone is new reproduction
from Ted. Thanks Ted! New bearings and seals were used throughout, including new bearings/seals in the tailcone. Water pump
impeller is fine but not new.
PAINT
Prior to painting, all parts were glass bead blasted clean and washed. Parts were then primered and painted with rattle
can aerosol Plastikote. Paint work was done in 2003 so it's set up by now!
COMPREHENSIVE SET OF PHOTOS
A full set of approximately 40-60 photo files will be included on a CD in this purchase, so you can have a set of prints
made for your photo album if you so choose.
CREDENTIALS
Wayne Seeberg built this motor. He has built and raced KG4H (won ASR nationals)/20H style motors up through SST120 equipment
since the 70s and is recognized on the West coast as a reliable engine and lower unit builder. Parts were scrutinized and
selected correctly, and this was assembled correctly.
DOES IT RUN?
Yup. Had a problem with a weak condensor, which has been resolved.
SHIPPING
First of all, check out the feedback on partzbuyer…..this should help you be comfortable that we are careful and
effective at shipping things like this. This motor will be shipped in two boxes FedEx ground. Powerhead will be bolted to
a wood diaphragm to keep it positioned correctly and then double boxed with padding between. Lower unit will be shipped in
a separate box. Figure your own shipping rates from 94553 using FedEx ground home delivery on the FedEx web site. Might be
one 60 and one 50 lb box.
TANK
If you want a pressurized tank, we have a few non-stock options which use the std Merc 2-line system. Expect to rebuild,
or get help rebuilding. We can probably point you to such help. Or heck, just put a fuel pump on it so you can go back
to single line as we do and be done with it. We can show you how to mount the standard single-line Merc fuel connector
on this cowl...very trick, very slick, as you'd expect from Uncle Wayne.
