"STICK YOUR NECK WAAAAAAY OUT" WATER.
44modbackstretch.jpg
Looooooooooong run at it on the back stretch!!! Yup, boat's too small.... click for a larger view..

44mod with good crank, block, porting and Loyd Mize expansion chambers. Superb DeWald kilo props. Not much punch below 70, but from 70-85 it punches well, and I chickened out at high 80s since it started to walk around too much.  Too much lift for that speed.  Carl sez he saw 90 and let off.....makes sense since he weighs more and the boat wouldn't be catching as much as as it was with lil ol me. :O)

44H on the too-small Sorenson.
44atya2.jpg

This Sorenson was built for 240lb Larry Lister in Dstock, so with smaller people and a serious 44mod, it was scary-fast on good water.   Now it lives in Idaho on Coer d'Alene Lake, 2100',  for 55H and stock 44 motors .

As is apparent below, if 180lb people hold the throttle on, the boat keeps climbing as it is packing more and more air until it starts to walk to spill air.  We decided against walking around at 90.  Click the photo for larger evidence in a new window.

Same boat is much happier with a 55H.

Electric44 - Effortless pushbutton 73mph
44b.jpg
Finally got the performance at altitude we wanted!

6/2004.    We've had this boat in C d'A for years and have tried a stock 55H and another 44 powerhead I got off of someone else with an ugly porting job...the 55H would see high 60s with this short course prop and low 70s with the long course....'bout right I'd think since we lose a few mph with the altitude here.... and the 44 did worse.  Too bad 'cause the 44 was ELECTRIC START which in our advanced years was really appealing!  Replaced the 44powerhead last year, solved the water cooling problems here in 6/04, and got it going a respectable 73 with the short course prop!  Yeah baby!  We have several longer course DeWalds that typically are good for 3-4mph more, so I'll bring those up next trip to see if we really can get 77 or so.  Waaaaaay nicer than a 55H since, well, since it's PUSHBUTTON STARTING!   I need to convert a few more to pushbotton too!  Sacralegious, I know... :o)

This is a scary place since when the water appears dead flat, you never really can be totally sure.....boat wakes can travel a long ways across this 20 mile long lake, and it's a pain running into them in this little boat with everything hung out.......

Easy to forget how fast 73 feels when you stay dry for a while....
