Welcome, All My Relations.

I am told that my birthmother was

part Native American, but adoption records

failed to list the nation

she and her family line belonged to.

Intuitive resonance draws me to the nations

of the Eastern Woodlands, while a

process of energetic discernment suggests

that the Chickasaw nation may be connected

somehow with my ancestral line.  Unfortunately,

not much material is available on

the customs of the Chickasaw.

I mention this only to set in context

my passion for learning the ways of the

good red road in general, and of the medicine path

in particular.  I do not mean to neglect

the rest of my heritage, which includes—

so I'm told--- ancestors from Sweden, Germany,

England and possibly Ireland.  Thus the indigenous

practices of the northern Europeans from their

tribal days are also of interest, but are not

as specifically addressed on this website.

Given here are my personal reflections and

experiential understandings of what it is

to be a spirit-becoming-medicine----meaning,

to strive to live in harmony with the

spirits of one's environment so that

their medicine flows through you

for the benefit of the greater

circle of life on the planet.

In particular what is written here are some of the

experiences and background associated

with my recent shamanic initiation which

took place on the 9th of May 2004 at

WolfDance Sanctuary near Tonasket, WA.

Some could wonder why I asked for an initiation.

It is difficult to put an answer into words, especially

because what I got out of it was so much more

than I ever imagined in the years I had been thinking

I might want one and preparing myself to be worthy of it.

Perhaps the best answer I can give now is that I had

experienced several types of rites of passage over

the years including ones that were academic,

relational, emotional, professional, and physical.

What I hadn't experienced was a rite of passage

that was spiritual, or at least not in the sense of having

a ritual derived from the eclectic blend of

spiritual traditions I follow, and facilitated by someone

who I considered to be an adept elder, wise teacher,

and caring friend.  For me, to ask for a shamanic

initiation, I needed to have someone who knew me

almost better than I knew myself, and who I could

trust with my life. When all these elements were

flowing together, the opportunity for me to

ask for an initiation presented itself.
