Poems & Sonnets Date : 28-Jun-90 From : Dale Malone To : April WhitedSubject : Dark and Forboding Melody
Silly thing to sit and
Compose at a keyboard
Transmit via a modem
Hoping that the
Unannounced turns and
Twists of my mind
Are not too awfully
Obtuse nor lost on
The intellect of your
Expanding awareness.
Shining syllables
Softly and silently
Entered, with many a
Backspace [DELETE] and
Often, a grunt to
Accompany obliteration
Of an entire line,
Hold down the CONTROL and
Depress the “Y”.
Glittering consonants and
Soothing and reassuring
Vowels, connect my thoughts.
All tied together with
Little strange symbols
Called punctuation.
This is really a strange
Method to communicate with.
My fingers dart over the
Clicking and clacking
Keys, stumbling when
They attain the limits of
Their physical reach,
Sometimes bumbling into
Bizarre combinations,
Heretofore unseen by
Sentient beings.
Words that could only be
Composed using this
Extension of my SELF,
This mechanical contrivance
That slows down my need
To say what it is I want to
Say, and to not have
Any cross-linked letters
Or out of sequence marks.
What a trial, all to tell
You what fun it is to
Exchange sparks of thoughts with you.
Now that sounds foreign to me
But it is exactly what I
Am doing at this moment.
Take these connected letters
And contiguous words,
Read them in the same
Manner that I envisioned them
When I tippy-tapped them
Out on my rectangular
Keycaps, and plots of
Land-shaped other Function
Keys - All for you, April
All this effort, just for your
Appreciation and illumination.

this how you feel when you type?
