Loosen up Fred, no matter what I think, it cannot affect you. Besides, you said you were uncentered on this issue. Sounds to me like you have a lot of feeling, and should go out and do something about it.

What the hell kind of an answer is that? It is either important to be strapped in, or it is an imposition on my rights. But, if it is important, why have they avoided such important vehicles as school busses? Too old, too many and no one particularly cares is a rather casual answer for someone that seems so upset about it.

DEM> It is the mother's child, and not the states.
FL> You need to take a refresher course in Child Abuse 101

Hmmmm. It is child abuse unless the reasons above are valid, then the child takes a back seat to time, disuse, and numbers?
FL> .... Not only from outside agressors, but from
FL> inside ones as well. You seem to imply that childrenFL> are not entitled to the same rights as adults in this

I don't dispute their rights, I dispute the ability to legislate responsible action. Show us some crushed and mangled bodies, pour buckets of blood and organs on the tube for us.
But don't try to legislate a law that makes me a responsible parent, it is illogical and will lead to further erosion of my rights, as attempts are made to enforce it.
FL> By enacting seat-belt legislation the government (as
FL> well as a people in general) send a strong message

Come on, Fred. The Nation's children? A strong message? This is a cop-out by the legislators. Instead of spending money on education, they try brute force and violation of prerogative.
I say again, if a parent does not want to strap their child in, they are foolish, but how can you protect the child by a restraint law without having as one of the penalties for violation being that the child be forcibly removed from the custody of the parent for negligent abuse?
I mean, isn't that what is being said? Yet, they meddle in the mechanics and stop short of imposing a real penalty. Sheer bureaucracy and meddling in my personal rights.
FL> Ever read the book "Death From Child Abuse ... And No One
FL> Heard"? Seems the title should be re-written for you FL> saying "Death From Child Abuse ...
You need to get away from the issue. Don't attack me, attack the violators of the law, or support the lawmakers. Support motorcycle helmet laws for me, would you?
