Polly, I Knew You Not!

1993, December the 4th, one short day
After the identity of he who had seized you
Was revealed on the idiot-box has come the dreadful news,
Polly Klaas' body they found, sprawled rudely in the woods.

Polly, a gamine smile that looked out from posters
Everywhere our eyes did chance to behold, also
Depicted the depraved visage of a
Sinister eyed, bearded
fiend.

Polly, I knew you not, but everything I
Saw, and all that I heard, proclaimed to me
You were bubbling innocence, and
Curiosity and youthful enthusiasm,
Effervescing with the possibility of events yet to unfold,
Your exuberant joy in every portrait, and even
Looking out from a short tape we saw of
You swaying on a swing, you, with your Mona Lisa smile.

When first we learned that you had
Been abducted from your home
Whilst giggling at a slumber party with friends,
We were puzzled by the circumstances, the incongruities.

Many were catapulted into action, the outcry from the
Citizenry was swift and outraged, a multitude
Assembled with eagerness to enlist in your rescue.

But the unscrupulous rogue that seized you, for
Whatever his intent, eluded even the constabulary
Who had him briefly in their grasp but let him proceed
On his malevolent endeavor and he snatched from your chaste
Lips and your virginal heart, all the
Excitement and innocence of your youth and
Thrust you brusquely into womanhood.

Your precipitous entrance into the dark environs
Of the Hell populated by those of his ilk, was terminal.

Our anxious hopes and our heartfelt prayers for your
Being found safe, with others of your family
Were shattered during a strained declaration
By an ashen-faced officer of the law,
Barely able to keep his tears arrested,
Croaking around a lump in his throat as he divulged
The stark discovery of your mortal remains.

Polly Klaas, I knew you not,
But I have a sincere feeling,
That if I did, I would have
Liked you more than an awful lot.

I think I would have treasured a rapport
With your wholesome innocence and
The merry sparkle dancing in your eyes.
The humor and fun-loving joy, the
Carefree embrace of life that you manifested.

Justice needs to be reinstated, taken back from
The abysmal disarray it has fallen into, and
Polly, you are the catalyst that
Brings this sacred cleansing to fruition.

The honest, virtuous, and hardworking outnumber
The crooked lawyers, con-men, paid-for politicians,
Arrogant criminals, and especially those that defile the sacred trust
Placed in their hands... the “Justices” and parole boards
Who make a mockery of the liberties
Of the righteous and lawful and proffer them instead
At the cloven hooves of the piglets,
Denizens of darkness, and the swindlers
Feeding upon the sweat of our exertions, besmirching
Our honest toil with their abhorrent taxes and
Their despicable avarice.

Polly, I knew you not, sweet child, but Polly,
I can witness to you that I will always treasure your memory.
You have transformed my life
And touched a chord in my immortal soul.

Your dreadful finale and brief sojourn on this
Mortal coil has served to empower me,
It granted me the time required to rediscover God's truth.

I have moved beyond perception and arrived to
Quench my thirst at the fountain of knowledge and
Am reassured that you are sinless and immortal
That you abide eternally in the Mind of God,
Surrounded by joy, knowledge, and
Precious beauty where you never were absent.

There I am also, Polly my sister, Daughter of God.

Oh, Polly, I knew you not, but you have
Delivered me from the ignorance of unknowing and transported me
Into the pure light of the joy of love and now I realize, Polly,
That I have known you throughout eternity.

Dedicated to the Memory of Polly Klaas
