The question was posed
“What is Liberty?”
My reply was long in coming
Looked deep into my soul
Examined all the factors
I think to drive a large converted
bus
With an office inside
A large, comfortable bed
A commodious seat
A T.V. rearview system.
To go where whim is a magnet
Dawdling at places I desire to experience
To write from sunup to long past its downing
Visit towns and share with people
Show them how transparent
The bars of their prisons.
To write to friends
A portable modem
Cellular phone and HF too!
CB for help and conversation
Visiting “little people” to be a
Magnifying mirror of their hopes.
How about a “Johnny Appleseed” of
dreams?
Sowing rejuvenation and pruning away
The deadwood of the doubters who gave in.
Tell the stories of heroes by the number
Undaunted by their own lowly state
Climbed their mountain, even falling from time-to-time.
To drive sometimes until my butt
is numb,
To stop beside an alpine lake with a setting
Of millions of trees, birds, flowers and bees
Nary a person in sight, yet here I sit
Watching the tube, so cosmopolitan.
Drawing the good and banal from
The sky above, laughing at life.
Using my rooftop dish to pull signals
From afar, bounced off the whirling marvels in space
Wander in paths never trod by man, unspoiled.
Drinking the pure water of
unpolluted streams,
Drawing in huge draughts of unsullied air,
Nibbling herbs and roots and leaves.
Using my Sierra Club guidebook
To sample a diet of God's own lavishness.
Reading the words of dauntless
souls who
On their journey through this life
Left me signposts to tell me what
Dangers await and what pleasures abound.
How to avoid dead-end forks to life's trails.
Family and friends in far off
places,
Storing my bus in airport lots.
Darting to remote jewels of distant ports,
Glittering with history and charm here on Earth.
Returning refreshed and off again!
Touring and marveling, oohing and
ahhing,
Savoring and drinking deep of God's gifts.
But mostly being a touchstone of positivity,
An unraveler of despair and guide to light.
This is my portrait of me....
