LOVE AND CONFUSION

The new day breaks, love sparkles like diamonds in the air,
The gentle breezes shift the geometric perfection of my thinning hair,
My mind is pondering our complex relationship,
My feet are rhythmically placed one before the other,
As I look at the tangerine glow, honeysuckle's perfumed glory,
I think about how we met, the dawning of our love's story.

Each day was burgeoning with wonder, overflowing the bounds of our cup,
Could not gaze nor touch enough, seldom bothering to look up.
Then we had our first unsettling tiff,
Wounded spirits, and bruised hearts, our memories from that day,
We molded closer after that, our bodies did they blend,
To form a single entity, our love we did mend.

From that day, we moved afresh, growing and becoming more,
Sure, we were, that dark times were past, our hearts could only soar,
But once again, the rift appeared, and discord took its toll,
This time we did not quickly mend and lingering hurt remained,
Now we each, our sensitive steps, were careful to be placed,
Then we found that all our fears remained, yet to be faced.

To our wounded souls, appeared that love had fled our lives,
We walked down separate paths it seemed, cold, hard, surprise,
Once more we met and found that darkness overshadowed the former glow,
Laughter stilled, tear drops formed, heads drooped in pity,
On one Friday, right on the cusp, the early part of May,
We met again, and joy, our hearts strings resumed their play.

Then we found, standing arm-in-arm, beside the noisy Inn,
That hurt was lurking, and eager to pounce, committed the deadly sin,
Voiced those thoughts that crushed our love,
That dashed the sparkle from our sapphire orbs,
We parted and returned us both, to our silent homes,
I thought, that all of this, would spell the death of poems.

Then, not to grant the glimmer, permission to depart,
I called to plead my case, I love you so, listen to my heart,
In this simple way, I told you my hurt,
Astonishment cascaded down the humming line,
You understood, and out of the doldrums, burst forth our love,
We talked and verbalized our thoughts, fitting like hand in glove.

Now we think that love's first blush,
Is by us and might never return, but in our rush,
To meet our fate, our destiny to unfold,
We will race to each other's arms and hold and love again,
To kiss and touch, and trace the path, where salty tears made their course,
To whisper in your ear, to mend your heart, to sweep away remorse.

Now forward, to slake our thirst in refreshing crystal springs,
Caring not the attendant strife that our growing brings,
Sheltered in our romance and in our lover's thoughts,
Our timid souls are reborn, moving forward to mysterious places,
This is where, from our past, we find that missing piece,
Able to weave this love of ours, enfolding us in the Golden Fleece.
