DEM> Wait, we were talking about abortion, now you are talking
DEM> about murder and a first trimester fetus and its
DEM> relationship to murder. O.K., I will shift gears.

FL> Yes, Dale. Isn't it interesting how some people might
FL> think that abortion falls under the heading of murder?
FL> Isn't it just as interesting that these people would
FL> like to decide if it is murder before opening the
FL> floodgates to abortion procedures?

[All of the following is me talking-DEM]

You can say what you will, but the government is ill-equipped to try and legislate a fair, equitable, and moral law in relation to this issue.

You, nor anyone can tell when the child is gifted with its soul. The point being, that circumstances that cannot be legislated on, prevail during many pregnancies.

I certainly do not approve of abortion as a routine method of birth control, nor do I particularly approve of its being funded by the government.

It is a private and personal decision and should be between the mother, father, and a loving and informative private medical facility and maybe even a competent, moral, religious, and psychological staff.

I think it is tantamount to gassing the Jews, to force a child on a woman that does not want it. You are so concerned about the child and the environment it will be raised in, how about being raised by someone that hates you, from your conception to your delivery, and every waking moment is hell because it is a reminder of events or factors that no legislative body in the world could ever equitably decide?

Especially, enmasse as a blanket policy. That would be like passing a law, saying that anyone accused of a crime is guilty and will be punished without regard to their innocence. This is exactly what pro-lifers are doing to a woman, or child that becomes pregnant and does not want to give birth to the baby. Mitigating factors have to be considered, and if you tried to anticipate all of them, you would create a monster bureaucracy to manage it, and an unbelievably complex set of guidelines and rules to determine proper solutions. Left at the level of the individual, it is simple, either have the child, or divest yourself of it. The morality is something that is their burden, not yours. Nor any angry mob. It is an agonizing, human decision that will be lived with for the rest of the life of the mother to be. It cannot be voted on, nor can it be decided by a committee. Especially, it cannot be decided on, in advance of the particulars that will prevail.

The pro-lifers are saying that the mother is “guilty,” and must deliver and provide succor to the infant, no matter the circumstances (her punishment). That is sheer stupidity, and the grossest of injustices.

It is cruel and unusual, and I repeat, the rights of the mother, MUST take precedence over the rights of the unborn fetus, otherwise you have a situation so disgustingly hideous as to defy description.

There is no man on this planet that is qualified to make a judgment in this issue, since we have no idea what is entailed in the carrying and birthing of a baby.

It certainly is an issue that cannot be decided by pickets and burning down clinics and denying a woman the right to make her own choice.

We said before this is a thorny issue. I do not support wholesale abortion, nor government funded abortion, nor repetitious routine abortion choice, but I support the right of an individual to make their own decision.

I would support the mandatory severing of the ovaries of any woman who has her third abortion. That is as close to violating her rights as I will come, and that is a very weighty decision that someone would have to make.

By the same reasoning that I will read “Satanic Verses” (it is extremely boring) and will watch the much publicized movie about Jesus, I will not allow anyone else to make decisions about what is good for me or wrong for me. That is my God-given right and not up for grabs by the unwashed hoi polloi. You want to pull that crap, you go to Russia, but not in America, not while I am still breathing!

You may not believe in abortion, but if you try to stop a woman with force, or destroy property to support and forward your aims, I will cut you down like the beast that you are. Your opinion is your right, but your action is O.K., only as long as it does not restrict the rights of another.

I know you are not in these groups, or you may be, but the point is made. Don't force me to adhere to your mores, your limitations, your judgment. I will make my own decisions.

This same factor is valid in the current pornography dispute. If you don't like seeing men and women doing what men and women do together, then don't look at it. Don't buy it, rent it, or view it. But don't think that your cogent ability is superior and must take precedence over mine. Your numbers do not impress me either. It is my right, guaranteed by the Constitution to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

So, don't force your puritanical and tyrannical opinions on me. Not on pornography, nor literature, nor religion, nor personal hygiene, nor on abortion. Live with your beliefs, but don't try to make me live as you choose.

This is not personally directed at you, but is being pulled from me in response to your feeling of “rage,” about my opinion. I spit on your rage!

There! How about that?
