We are dedicated to finding homes for Great Danes that have been abandoned, abused, have medical issues or just need a home. This page is intended to give you insight into our adoption process.

The Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with completing our Adoption Application. This application must be filled out completely and mailed or faxed back to us. We will then review your application. If we have any questions, one of our representatives will contact you.

The references you put on your application will be contacted, including the Vet references. We ask that personal references not be family members. Neighbors and friends make good references.

The adoption process will requires that a home check be done. One of our representatives will contact you to set up a convenient time to meet at your home. This is done to ensure that the fence is in good condition, point out any items that may have to be Dane Proofed and to point out any areas that may be dangerous or harmful to a Great Dane.

Manditory Adoption Requirements

Following are the manditory requirement that must be met for all Colorado adoptions:

1) The applicant, nor anyone in the immediate family, must never have been convicted of any federal, state or local animal abuse laws.
2) All Danes will be spayed / neutered prior to the formal adoption.
3) A fenced area, large enough for a Great Dane, must be present on the property where the Dane will reside.
4) In the case of a puppy adoption, the applicant agrees to not crop the Danes ears.
5) In the case of a puppy adoption, the applicant agrees to have the Dane spayed / neutered prior to 6 months of age.
6) The applicant will provide an indoor, heated, area for the Dane to stay during cold weather.
7) In the event the applicants residence is a rental property, a signed letter must be received from the Landlord giving his/her approval.
8) Agree with all stated requirements and sign our Adoption Agreement.
9) In the case of a puppy adoption, 1 year old or less, GDALI will not adopt to any family that has children 5 years old or younger.

Following are additional requirements for adoptions outside Colorado:

1) The applicant, family and other pet(s) if applicable, must come to our location and meet with our representatives.
2) In the case of a puppy adoption, the applicant must bring the Dane back to our location after it has been spay / neutered for verification.
3) Provide monthly updates to GDALI on how the Dane is doing for the first six months. This can be done via email or phone call.
Note: In the event GDALI has a volunteer in the applicants state, spay / neuter verification can be done with our volunteer in that state.

Adoption Fees

Adoption Area

While we understand there are wonderful homes looking to adopt a Great Dane all over this country,
and we will bring in Dane into our organization from all over the country,
our organization has an adoption area of Colorado and any state that boarders on Colorado.
Only under very specific circumstances will we adopt one of our Danes outside the adoption area.
