The local art museum is opening a new exhibit about the Revolutionary War. They have asked you to make a brochure to advertise the exhibit to people in the community.
Your task is to choose two out of five paintings to use as illustrations in the brochure. You will also need to learn about the two paintings from sources in this webquest and then write about them for the brochure. You will use the computer to type and print the final product.
You will be graded on the writing and content of your brochure. If you and a partner worked together to make one brochure then you will also both be graded on how well you worked together. Print out the Grade Sheet and begin to give yourself and your partner a grade. Your teacher will give you a final grade. Once again, congratulations on a job well done!!
A small group of students are shown here trying out the American Revolution Webquest in the Technology Lab of Westmere Elementary School. An overhead projector was used to guide the students through the webquest. Five one hour sessions allowed enough time for these intermediate to advanced level Limited English Proficient - English Language Learners to complete the task. It was not necessary to spend each of these session at the computer. The students spent time filling in the graphic organizers and writing the rough drafts of the brochure outside of the lab. Parental permission was granted to use these photos on the internet. The tasks given in this webquest address many New York state standards in social studies, English language arts, art, and English as a second language. The content used in the Gathering Information phase was modified for use by Limited English Proficient English Language Learners (LEP-ELL's) in the ESL classroom. Specifically, the section accessed by clicking on the "Basic" button will direct the learner to modified text with a glossary. However, this webquest could also be used by mainstream classroom students who are learning about the American Revolution. Materials Needed Successful completion of this webquest requires access to a computer with internet capabilities, Microsoft Word software, and either a black and white or color printer. The documents labeled Gathering Information Worksheet, Graphic Organizer, Brochure Template, Grade Sheet and the example brochure were all saved in Microsoft Word 6.0/95. If your computer has at least this software or a newer version of Word, you should be able to view the documents. Mini-Lessons This webquest is not intended as a stand alone unit. Rather, it should accompany a unit on the Revolutionary War period of American history.
