A Sure Foundation Lutheran Church video was shown to the attendees prior to the meeting. Business Meeting Our spring retreat took place at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Kingman, AZ. At 10:25 a.m. on April 25th, President Diane Kramm welcomed the attendees. A congregational roll call was taken and the total number of ladies, pastors, men, and guests were accounted for at the rally. The final count for the retreat included 75 attendees. The group observed a moment of silence to acknowledge the following sister in Christ who has been called home to eternal life since our last meeting: Leona Piepenbrink Redeemer, Tucson Minutes The fall minutes from the November 21st retreat were read silently. The following misspellings were noted: Pat Messers name was misspelled on pages 2 & 3 of the minutes Arlene Coffins name was misspelled on page 2 On page 3, the name of the spring rally host site was incorrect. The correct host site is Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. The minutes were then approved, seconded, and passed. Treasurers Report Circuit Treasurer Stephanie Weinstein discussed the highlights of the report with the group. Our current ending fund balance is $6839.58. Stephanie reported that the board recommends $3000 from our working fund be sent to the Sure Foundation in New York to help with the mission. From the floor a further discussion ensued concerning our circuits bank, Chase. Stephanie spoke with Chase Bank and requested a waiving of the bank fees, but they declined. She will investigate Compass Bank in the near future since they do not charge fees on business accounts. The treasurers report was approved, seconded, and passed. Befriend a Mission Update The LWMS central office assigned our circuit two home and two world missions. They are: Hong Kong, Malawi, the Sure Foundation of N.Y., and Beautiful Savior in Tennessee. Vice-President Christie Karow would like to highlight one mission at each rally/retreat to help our circuit to get to know these missions. Christie also reported on changes she made to the format of her reports. So far, the reaction shes received on the new design has been positive. Christie read a letter from a young Wisconsin woman named Teri Unterholzner who highlighted the work she does in Africa. Teri plans to be at the national convention in Denver in case anyone wishes to speak with her in person. Diane K. reminded the group of the restrictions of posting missionary information on the internet. Those ladies or individuals seeking additional information will need to contact a reporter or board member. Old Business Circuit Division: Earlier in April, Clara Naber sent out an email to those of the Grand Canyon circuit. She also brought along 100 surveys and encouraged women to photocopy them and distribute copies to their church members so that more people could have a voice on the issue of the circuit splitting. Clara would like to have the surveys returned by the end of July 2009. Clara reminded the group that she is simply beginning the discussion on this issue. No final decisions have been reached yet. If a split did occur, she saw a north/south division to be the easiest solution with Phoenix being considered north and Tucson being considered south. (Those circuit members living between circuits could have the option of joining either/or both circuits.) Much discussion ensued related to this issue. Secretary Melinda Sims noted to the group that she has a report on her computer which keeps a running tally of the number of attendees to all rallies/retreats dating back to 1995. The discussion ended with the ladies vowing to involve more young women of the churches in LWMS. Clara encouraged the group to respond to the surveys and to talk to the ladies of their congregations concerning the circuit matters. New Business Circuit Funds Distribution: (75%) $1568.05 of our mission box money will be sent to Hong Kong (This is money collected before the rally.) (25%) $522.68 will be sent to the national office to pool with the other circuits These distributions were approved, seconded and passed. $878.25 from freewill offerings was collected at the rally. Pat Sorgatz raised a question about the boards reaction to her recommendation to send funds to the New Beginnings home in Aurora, CO. Pat went on to explain in greater detail the work of those associated with this home for expectant mothers. As a result of the discussion, Kathy Dietrich of Pilgrim, Mesa recommended a change to the original freewill funds distribution for this rally. Kathy Dietrich set forth a motion for the freewill offering funds to be divided in the following way: send $500 to Water of Life, Las Vegas, $500 to Shepherd of the Hills, Las Vegas, and $500 to the New Beginnings group home in Aurora, CO and to have our working fund make up the difference necessary to cover the resulting amount. Cathy Daichendt of Deer Valley seconded Kathy Dietrichs motion. After discussion, the motion passed with 48 individuals standing to show a majority support for this motion. The working funds balance will be approx. $1000 after all the commitments have been met. Elections: Spiritual Growth candidates: Nellie Lord of Hope Lutheran Church in Chino Valley Cathy Daichendt of Deer Valley Lutheran Church in Phoenix Election Results: Upon the final tallying of ballots, the board announced: Cathy Daichendt received the majority of ballots to become one of the new spiritual growth laywomen of the circuit Ruth Schaller of Redeemer, Tucson volunteered to step into the position of circuit secretary due to Melinda Sims vacating the position in May as a result of her husbands pastoral call to Ohio. Ruth will fulfill the duties of secretary until spring 2010 Pastor Grube will continue for another term as pastoral advisor Stephanie Weinstein will continue for another term as treasurer Diane Kramm will assume the new position of LWMS trainer for the circuit Diane K. urged all of us to vote for the national LWMS candidates. We should take the vote seriously. The LWMS reporters can send the central office one ballot for a congregation. Denver Convention: Diane invited those attending to go to the national convention in Colorado. If anyone needs a room, she encouraged the ladies to contact the hotel to request a space. Also, if anyone is going to the convention alone, LWMS will find roommates. The group adjourned at 11:55 a.m. Respectfully submitted, Melinda Sims, Secretary LWMS Grand Canyon Circuit LWMS Grand Canyon Circuit Spring 2009 Rally Minutes April 25, 2009 PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 3 ) * , b y % h v w } 󢱖{ofZKK?K?hp7CJOJQJaJhg6hCJOJQJaJhX5CJOJQJaJhR5CJaJhg6h%5CJaJh%CJOJQJaJhg6hON@CJOJQJaJh/6CJOJQJaJhg6h~CJOJQJaJhg6h%CJOJQJaJhg6hhUCJOJQJaJhg6hYCJOJQJaJhmCJOJQJaJhm56CJOJQJaJhmh?6CJOJQJaJhmhU6CJOJQJaJhU5CJOJQJaJhg6hY5CJOJQJaJheyhr5CJOJQJaJhX5CJOJQJaJh(hCJOJQJaJhy`CJOJQJaJheyCJOJQJaJhg6hXwCJOJQJaJ>?@FG A&23\帬uuuiu]uQuh(hCJOJQJaJhX5CJOJQJaJhy`CJOJQJaJhuCJOJQJaJhg6huCJOJQJaJh/6CJOJQJaJh/6hm6CJOJQJaJh5TCJOJQJaJhg6h5TCJOJQJaJhmCJOJQJaJ"hmhU56CJOJQJaJhUCJOJQJaJhg6hYCJOJQJaJ\e b ʻʚʬʻʻʋ|maaRhg6huCJOJQJaJhCJOJQJaJhy`huCJOJQJaJh56CJOJQJaJht 56CJOJQJaJ"ht ht 56CJOJQJaJhy`56CJOJQJaJhX556CJOJQJaJ"ht hu56CJOJQJaJhy`CJOJQJaJhuCJOJQJaJht CJOJQJaJ !=!w!!"##$X$ %&5&M&N&&&&&&&&&&' dgd6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666hH6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666662 0@P`p2( 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p8XV~ OJPJQJ_HmH nH sH tH J`J Normal dCJ_HaJmH sH tH DA D Default Paragraph FontRiR 0 Table Normal4 l4a (k ( 0No List >@> @> 3\`?/[G\!-Rk.sԻ..a濭?PK!֧6 _rels/.relsj0 }Q%v/C/}(h"O = C?hv=Ʌ%[xp{۵_Pѣ<1H0ORBdJE4b$q_6LR7`0̞O,En7Lib/SeеPK!kytheme/theme/themeManager.xml M @}w7c(EbˮCAǠҟ7՛K Y, e.|,H,lxɴIsQ}#Ր ֵ+!,^$j=GW)E+& 8PK!Ptheme/theme/theme1.xmlYOo6w toc'vuر-MniP@I}úama[إ4:lЯGRX^6؊>$ !)O^rC$y@/yH*񄴽)޵߻UDb`}"qۋJחX^)I`nEp)liV[]1M<OP6r=zgbIguSebORD۫qu gZo~ٺlAplxpT0+[}`jzAV2Fi@qv֬5\|ʜ̭NleXdsjcs7f W+Ն7`g ȘJj|h(KD- dXiJ؇(x$( :;˹!
