Problem Accessing Email Via Port 25

Your firewall software may be blocking port 25 for outgoing communications.

If you see an error message similar to that shown below, it may be caused by Internet access protection (firewall) software running on your computer.  This software blocks unknown programs from using port 25 to send outgoing communications on the Internet in order to prevent malicious programs from using your computer to send email.  If that is the situation, you can usually configure the firewall software to allow GradeMail to access and use port 25.

The screenshots shown below are representative of steps you can take to allow GradeMail to access port 25.  These screens are for a McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0 product.  If you use other protection software, you will have to look for the proper configuration locations or contact the support service for your product for help.

You will want to edit the Access Protection configuration (right click on that item and go to "Properties").

You want to change the rules for accessing port 25 (the first rule shown below).  Highlight that item and click "Edit".

Add java.exe and GradeMail.exe to the list of processes (programs) that are excluded from the rule that blocks port 25 for outgoing communications - see example below.  Then click OK to accept changes and use subsequent OK or Apply buttons to back out of the firewall configuration.
