Well, the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are nearly here...
...although the so-called "May Greys" and the approaching "June Gloom" are really the calm before the
hellish L.A summer storm...I love the overcast morns--in fact, I'd love it to be like that all day long. Guess it's good I'm
movin' to Seattle soon..."gonna be a dental floss tycoon..."
As usaul these days, subbing is the order of the day...with an eye toward this coming September, when I begin my new job as
a fifth-grade teacher in San Gabriel. I love the idea of thinking about lessons all summer--the anticip......PATION of wondering
what kind of kids will make up my class. I'm planning on visiting the school next week to see the principal and maybe get
in to see my room. That would help immensely!
So what else is going on?
Bridgette just finished her latest musical, "Gaslight Girl," a send-up of the old melodramas of the turn of the
century. It was cute. She swears she's not going to put herself through another school production, mainly because her drama
teacher is essentially certifiably nuts. Can't say as I blame her. There will be other opportunities for her to do shows,
though--other schools in the area (mainly Catholic boys' schools) are always looking for talented girls to be part of their
productions. That and the production she auditioned for and got a part in for this summer: the Foothill Summer Theater's production
of GREASE. Bridgette will be playing Frenchy (made famous in the film by character actress Didi Conn). I'll be working on
the stage crew, so it should be a lot of fun for both of us!
Next week is this year's Caltech Shakespeare Readathon, wherein several people gather and put every one of the Bard's words
out into the ether over the course of 24 hours. I'll be joined this year by Deb, Bridgette, and friends Dana and Daniel in
reading "The Merchant of Venice," after which B and I will stay til the wee hours reading parts in "Julius
Caesar." Another great time.
