IT WAS GREAT BEING A KID!

Memories of growing up in our neighborhood

In 1953, people called it "the ditch". What part of our neighborhood were they referring to?

Kids went hunting in the beanfields adjacent to the neighborhood. What were they hunting? What hunting instruments did they use?

John and Betty Rank moved into their home on Aivlis Street in April 1954.  When they chose their home from a big plot posted on one of the walls in a model home on Lees Avenue, they had their choice of the entire tract—not one “sold” flag was yet pinned on the chart.  They finally settled on their house location, which was just a patch of dirt on an empty field at the time...

Notice the non-existent El Dorado Park area, as well as the beginnings of the construction to build the 405 freeway--the homes in our tract have not yet been torn down.
