I know there was no poem last year
When the group all went to Fiji.
But maybe that was a blessing –
Because all that rhymes is “squeegee”!
This year we ventured out once more
By bus, then planes, then van.
Where some of us had been before –
The isle of Roatan.
As usual on these dive trips,
We had new folks come along.
It was a mid-sized group this time.
We were 22 people strong.
No airsickness, no scary roads,
No luggage lost to find.
To describe our trip to this locale
“Uneventful” comes to mind.
We got there early – before lunch –
Which really was a treat.
Then Willy and his toothpick trick –
It took a while to beat.
I will not say that Jim is spoiled
Although, if I can dare,
It is a wee bit selfish
A whole “key lime” not to share!
We’re glad for dear Rebecca
And we’ll try to help her out
She is a most deserving soul –
Of that I have no doubt.
We had our share of rain –
Even though some did a sun dance.
But did that spoil morale?
Nope, with this group, not a chance.
No water – that was new glitch
As a ship hit an underground pipe.
Thank God it was only 12 hours
Or we’d all have been smelling quite ripe!
I will not mention any names
But, if you happen to be
At the bar on Tuesday night,
Bras coming off you did see!
Wednesday some of us went into town.
Another dove with sharks.
The rest of us continued diving
With staffers Gringo and Mark.
And speaking of those two,
One member of our group was heard to say:
“He’s gorgeous! I love divemasters!”
Maybe she’ll want to stay…..
The weekly happy hour came
On Wednesday on the deck.
More bras came off – and I was afraid
That Bill would strain his neck.
Then it was Thursday and once again
The water decided to stop.
We were all ready to trek on down
And shower at the dive shop.
As for the diving, I have heard
There were seahorses galore.
People saw them on boat dives
And on drop-offs back to shore.
One of our group got swept away
While diving – and instead,
When he got up into a boat,
It was not yellow, but red.
Then five went on a night dive,
And according to one man,
Three went one way; two another.
What about the dive plan?!
A large octopus, a carousel,
Some interesting shells –
Just some things found by the group
While diving in the swells.
Jose was here – same as before.
You could hear him as we dined.
And the only problem with the bar –
Seems they were short red wine!
And so another trip winds down.
Put away the gear and tanks.
If nothing else, I’m sure
That we owe Jim & Kathy thanks!
