I bought my first Turbo Buick in 11/97. A 1985 Buick Regal Grand National. This car originally belonged to a friend of mine from high school. He got it as an early graduation present. He abused the outside of the car but kept VERY good care of the engine. Oil got changed every 2500 miles. Tune ups whenever anything felt strange. I have all his receipts and his original paperwork except for the window sticker. Another friend of mine bought this car 2 months before I bought it from him.

The body was in need of work and the trans would shift soft after it warmed up. I started fixing up the body a bit and decided to concentrate on making it faster. First order of business was a new camshaft. Number 4 intake lobe went flat after a bit of driving. While I was there, I pulled the heads and ported them. Port matched the intake and installed a TA-33 turbo and 36lb injectors. I also installed an adjustable pressure regulator, larger fuel pump, 3" test pipe and 3" cat-back Torque Tech system. Car came without a posi so that got added. Installed an external trans cooler and a 12 inch 2800 rpm stall converter while the trans was out and mounted a set of Nitto drag radials. In 2000, I converted the computer to an 87 GN setup with a Thrasher chip. Added an electric fan from another GN along with the bigger radiator. Installed most of the frame bracing (under the radiator support, behind the back seat). Rebuilt the front suspension and installed new coil springs all the way around. In January of 2002, I got tired of the 2800 stall, and purchased a 10" non-lockup converter. Made the car feel much lighter and I don't worry about the gas mileage since I only drive it on the highway to go to the track.

This pic shows the day I brought it home. It was about 40 degrees outside. I was freezing.
