THUNDER BAY COMPOSITE SQUADRON

CIVIL AIR PATROL

On 13 May 2006 six members of the Thunder Bay Flight MI243 participated with other Michigan Wing Units in mission 06LTM001-002 and set up a deployed communication center located 45 degrees 03 minutes 31 seconds North by 83 degrees 38 minutes 10 seconds West approximately 10 miles west of Alpena near the intersection of Herron Road and M 32. One VHF station and 1 HF station were set up and run from generator power from 12:00Z to 16:00Z. During this time our station checked into the GLR Chaplains net and the NHQ Daytime Communicators net. 14 different stations from 4 Wings were contacted on 3 frequencies.

Training was conduct on generator operation, grounding and bonding, portable mast setup and tear down, antenna construction, radio operation. CUL and MRO training was also conducted.

This mission greatly enhanced the Thunder Bay Flight’s ability to provide emergency communication.
