edition of the Glenwood Herald) There are way too many videos, reference books and good children’s books that have not been returned to the library on time. I am changing my approach to overdue items. I have been lenient and understanding. I will still understand if there has been an ice storm or you have been hospitalized or had a family emergency. With volunteer help I am going to start noting all overdue books and you will be expected to pay your fines. Since this is a change in policy I am giving you fair warning and declaring the rest of March as amnesty time. Bring in your overdue items in March and pay no fees. After March, even if you return items in the book drop your number will be noted and you will have to pay any fines due before you can check out more materials. Fees for overdue books are ten cents per day and fees for videos are $1.00 per late day Previously no more than $5.00 per item was charged. We have too many missing videos and reference books so there will be no cap on fees. A late video returned after March will cost you $1.00 per each day it has been late, even if it has been 30 days! Checking out library materials is a privilege you can lose if you abuse it. Bring back missing items so others may use them. Keeping library items is stealing and you can be prosecuted. If you have questions call Beth Maxey at 356-4643. Someone has been donating books by leaving them in the book drop. Thank you for your generosity! Others have also brought in books to share with others. Mayor Ron Martin regularly brings us the paperbacks he has finished reading. Thanks to all you generous folks. If a book is a duplicate of one we have I may take it to turn in for credit at Just Books in Hot Springs. I have been able to purchase some good books for our patrons this way. As you know we seldom get new books from the regional library and the county allocates no money for book purchases. I also want to thank all the people who have taken the time to bring their old cell phones, ink jet cartridges and laser printer cartridges to the library. I have sent in one box of items to be recycled and have another box almost ready to go. Thank you Plyler’s and Bean Lumber Co. for your large contributions to this fundraiser. I don’t have the names of all those who contributed but you know who you are and you are appreciated. The Glenwood Library will close at 4:00 PM on Monday, March 22. The library will be closed Friday, April 2 so staff can attend a children’s reading program workshop. The Glenwood Library is located at 210 2nd St. in the City Hall building. The hours are 12:00 noon to 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday. | ||
