The Glenwood Public Library Update

(as submitted to the 12/11/03
edition of the Glenwood Herald)

I have good news for the library supporters who donated to the “un-bake sale”!
I talked to the publisher and the books on Argentina, Ecuador, El Salvador, Iraq
and Mexico should be in this week. Come by and take a look at what your donation
did for the students of the area. Thank you, library supporters!

I am happy to announce the start of a new “painless” fundraiser.
An organization called Funding Factory will pay the library for used
inkjet and laser printer cartridges and old cell phones that we turn in to them.
You can help the environment, clean out your house or workplace and help
the library all at the same time. Doesn’t that sound like a wonderful deal to you?
Gather up those old cartridges you meant to do something with, bring in that old
phone that was “too good” to throw away, but of no use to you, and we can turn
junk into library books! I hope we can fund the summer reading program with the
proceeds from this fundraiser. Pike County gives us some money for the summer
program but we need more money in order to get the kind of prizes we like to use
as reading incentives.

Miss Sarah wants to invite all area children to Story Time
at the library this Friday, December 12, at 1:30 PM. Bring a grown-up
and your listening ears and get ready for a fun time.

Copies of “Christian Homes and Special Kids” are still available for sale at the library.
This book, published by NATTHAN/CHASK, gives a “personal glimpse into the lives of
Christian families privately educating their disabled children.” NATTHAN is the
NATional cHallenged Homeschoolers Associated Network and
CHASK (Christian Homes And Special Kids) is a support ministry
for parents who have been informed that their baby may be born with
some form of special need. This book contains inspiring stories and practical
suggestions for teaching children. Susan Lantz, one of our library volunteers,
wrote a chapter in the book about Daniel, her personable 10-year-old son.

Some of the new graphics on the library web page are related to next
summer’s reading program, “Discover New Trails” at your library.
It looks like a really interesting way to promote reading.
Join us in planning fun programs and projects related to this theme.
Just call Beth Maxey at 356-4643 and let me know you want to help.
